Supernatural: Quick Wit and One-liners
Hey, a light, funny episode with little major emotional fallout! It’s good to see the guys snarking and kicking butt instead of grieving and attacking cars. The poor things needed a break. And as a bonus, the guy they were hunting ended up being just as quick with the quips as the Winchesters themselves. Not bad.
So let’s talk about Andy. Yeah, he used his mind powers to evade bill collectors and score free coffee, but he seemed almost harmless, just a happy-go-lucky guy who could convince you to give up your car. (And were we the only ones yelling “Noooooo!” at the TV when that happened?) He’s got a fun taste in music, a kickin’ van, and a decent outlook on life – “I have everything I need.” That’s kind of wonderful. But we still wouldn’t want to be on the other end of a conversation with him – we like our free will, thanks very much.
We were having so much fun chortling at the Star Wars references and the one-liners that we almost missed that whole subtext thing: Brother against brother, choosing between good and evil, the line between madness and sanity among those touched by the demon. We’re betting this will shake out into something major before too long.
We were impressed that Ellen finally got the boys to spill about all the kids who the demon may be manipulating. We thought Dean had a good point, saying telling a bar-full of hunters are Li’l Psychic Sammy may not be the best idea. But Ellen’s right – this is going to be bigger than just the Winchester boys, and they’re going to need all the help they can get. Let’s just hope Ellen doesn’t sell them out to the more zealous hunters out in the network. We can imagine that someone like Gordon wouldn’t have any problem eliminating Sam in the name of keeping the peace.
What did you think of Andy and his powers? Do you think the guys should have told Ellen about the demon-touched children – and that Sam was one of them? How clumsy was Jo’s attempt at seduction? Discuss!

umm... i really like jo. i dont think that she is trying hard to get into deans pants and i think that she is a sarcastic, cocky, tough girl. i liked the part that Dean sang the REO song cus when Sam asks him what he is doing he compleatly acts like he has deeper feelings for jo, it was something about the tone he said it in. so ya... i think jo just needs more time to develop.

Okay. Dean/Jo does not work. I can't believe they even attempted to promote them.
Moving on to cooler things- Andy was beyond cool and Ellen as well.

i love the episode simion said when dean couldn't stop talking when the guy would ask him a question and i think that dean has a really great voice he should put out a single..and omg in the episode blood lust when they just pulled over by the side of the road and had a moment when dean had the tear rolling down his cheak it was so CUTE but i think sams so much hotter plus hes actually done other stuff besides supernatural like movies!!! my fave was house of wax

well the episode was great. Andy was so funney. I can see were most people are coming from about Jo, but we have to give her some time. maybe she ends up not liking dean or whatever. ellen and ash are ok, but i strongly diagree on this Dean and Ellen together vibe i'm getting form some people. that would just be wrong. i think he would be good with Jo but needs some time on working on there chemistry. get at me for any comments. and if one of u can let me know bout episodes cus i prob. will miss them some time.
P.S. DEAN IS SO SEXY!!!!!

supernatural is for sure the best show
-dean is so friggin' hot, i love him and his cocky attitude. Love the roadhouse and characters. I would really like to see Jo and dean hookup he needs a girl. I just wish there was some way that john could come back.

I have only one thing to say about this episode.
The BONG.
Whoever had the idea to throw that in there, you are GENIUS!

i loved this episode, except for the part when Jo tried to come on to Dean. I dont like that idea cuz i find her to young for Dean. She's great and everything but she just needs to find a guy her own age to date. she looks like she's 15.
Posted by: 007princess | November 2, 2006 6:43 PM
Great episode, but I miss the days when it was just the boys and Metallicar...
(ps: Dean under mind control is like the funniest thing in the world!! I loved it!)

I really hope that Jo doesn't get run off the show by some people's complaints. She's not a particular favorite of mine, simply because she hasn't had much screentime yet and so we don't know her very well, but I think her attempts to hit on Dean are cute and she has interesting possibilities. Of course, if she suddenly becomes Dean's One True Love of all time in the next episode, I don't think it would work, but if the writers take the time to develop her character and show her growing up, I think she could be really great.
(Ellen and Ash are great too. I love the new Roadhouse characters, and I love that the boys are starting to meet more hunters and get a support system.)

I miss the music that Kripke promised he would only play. You know the 70.s and 80.s rock. REO! YUCK! Preview of the romance with Jo and Dean, with Dean singing the song, that was very lame. The actress and Jensen, have no chemistry, no matter how hard they try, its not there. I do agree that the actress that played Haley, Layla or even Cassie would have been perfect for Jensen. To bad Jessica Alba is not available, I loved them together in Dark Angel.
I dont mind the Roadhouse, and I do like Elen, but I don't know if Sam should have told her his secret. Why did't John mention this to her, and why did John get mad at her? What did she do to upset him? I am glad the boys are not alone, but they still many things to work out among themselves. Its also interesting to start seeing more people like Sam.
Well, no matter what I will continue to watch this show, for the next 3 or 4 years, Jensen and Jared are excellant actors and I adore them. I already got 3 more people to watch the show. Cannot wait for the next episode.

Loved this episode..cant stand Jo and the roadhouse..but loved the rest..fun moments, brother moments..get rid of Jo and Ellen and it would have been one of the best of the season.

This was a good episode. It had humor, Sammy's vision,Dean's wit, and a twisted bad guy. It all came out real nice in the end.

I thought the episode rocked! Andy was such a great guest star in this one and he needs to return. Dean happily giving up his car (whilst i'm screaming NO in the background), dean blurting out the truth and Sam yelling at him to shut up. lol oh that was just great.
Jo...Jo..Jo, she needs to get over herself. Did anyone else physically cringe when she turned on REO speedwagon? She's a little desperate in my book and I want her GONE. She has no chemistry whatsoever with Dean. Dean needs a real women, someone sassy and sarcastic and can kick ass. Not some wuss blonde chick who tries to hard to get into his pants.
I like Ellen a lot though I found her quite pushy in this episode, makes me think that she knows more than she's letting on. Ash, keep your pants on! everything else about you is friggin' awesome. All hail Dr. badass!
I dont think Dean and Sam should have told Ellen about Sam's powers. Hunters talk, Gordon said that in Bloodlust, and Gordon conviently knew about John's unfortunate death and how else would he know that unless Ellen or Jo spilled the beans? Some other hunter is going to find out and possibly try to kill Sam, they do hunt supernatural things and its been proven that some of these kids are dangerous. Who knows what Kripke is planning. They spilled too soon. Sam should have listened to Dean and kept his mouth shut. And Ellen needs to back off. She's not their mother or teacher and has no right telling Dean what he can and cannot do or say.
I give this episode a four out of 5. Mainly because i loved to see the normal Dean/Sam brotherly interaction and Andy just brought this episode up a couple points with his awesomeness.

Loved Andy, loved Jensen singing...it was very nice episode..
I do not know...I needed a little less emotional Dean for sometime...I am okay now..
I loved the episode...

Supernatural is brilliant!
BUT SHAME ON THE CW FOR NOT RUNNING ADS FOR THE NEW DIXIE CHICKS MOVIE.
I don't expect much from NBC but the CW is supposed to be more youth-oriented, less partisan, no?

I loved Everwood. What happened to it? Will it ever return?

This episode hit the ground running and didn't stop. Once again the writers have managed to balance all the elements in this show...I loved the humor (good ole snarky Dean...absolutely irresistable), I love the suspense and horror (watching that lady light herself on fire, Dean with the rifle to his head) and all of the brotherly moments!!! Props to both boys for another episode well done!!
Well, the roadhouse is back. I have to say that my original opinion of these characters haven't really changed. I love Ash...he has me laughing everytime I see him on screen. Ellen is up there in my books too. I love her tough, no-nonsense attitude and her mysterious history with John is definetly something that intrigues me. I think that she is trustworthy and that the reason that she wanted the truth was so that she could be better prepared for the war that she knows is coming. I actually would like to see her in action...I mean, someone had to have taught Jo how to shoot!! This brings me to Jo. Jo, oh, I don't like how her character is chasing Dean. This is not to say that I don't like her!!! I think that the girl for Dean needs to be one that he has to chase! I would much rather her have a cooler attitude when Dean is around rather than the blatant come-ons. Think someone with Andrea's attitude - I loved how she managed to shut Dean down with her whole "Must be hard with your sense of direction..." line. I think that the perfect girl for Dean would be someone with Andrea's spunk, Layla's maturity and Meg's fighting abilities.
As for Andy, I loved him and hope to see him working with the boys again some time in the near future.

Also I thought Jo's attempt to get Dean's attention was kind of cute in a really dorky way. I wish TPTB would commit to her character a bit more so that we can get a sense of what she's like beyond the really superficial stuff like being good with a gun and that she's crushing on Dean in a big way. The last is cute but doesn't tell us anything 'cuz you know, he's Dean Wincherster and who doesn't find him hot?
But I think we'll get to know Jo a little better next week.
Posted by: fangirl | October 30, 2006 1:21 AM
Well this wasn't my favorite episode or even in my top 10. But there were some brilliantly funny Dean moments so overall I enjoyed it.
I'll tell ya though, that REO Speedwagon song stuck in my head all weekend, dammit.
Posted by: fangirl | October 30, 2006 1:13 AM
I really liked this episode, one of my more favourites!
I think Sam probably shouldn't have spilled the beans, although the boys really do need help. I don't think they can face this by themselves. I think Ellen will be a good guy (er girl) too.
Andy was wonderful! Made the show funny as can be!

There was alot to love about this episode but overall it left me feeling a bit blah. I'm not sure why. I mean I loved all the cute bits like Dean singing REO Speedwagon, him giving the Impala away and then cutely blurting out the truth to Andy. And I really liked the actor who played Andy.
But first telekenisis and now he's immune to mind control -- Sam has a pretty convenient bag of superpowers whenever he needs them. Come one writers, that seems kinda lazy to me.
Also I found Sam's we're all evil psycho-killers refrain kind of repetitive and annoying. I was puzzled by his continuing insistence that Andy was somehow evil for killing the twin even though he saved Dean and the girlfirend. It really made no sense to me and made Sam seem near-sighted and a bit irrational.
Finally, while I thought the whole "do-over/what are you like &" exchange was cute. But Dean's blowing off Sam's fear that his brother thinks he's dangerous was frustrating. It seems regressive for Dean as a character especially
in light of last week when he finally opened up to Sam about his own feelings.
3 out 5 points on the pentagram for this one kids.

So is Supernatural the next show to be sacrificed on the altar of Justin Hartley and the Green Arrow Spin Off? Not like this network does anything much to promote this show - something Kripke and the fans are VERY aware of as his recent interviews have shown. And now with the continuing kissing of Justin Hartley's backside and the increasing possibility of Green Arrow-ville with every passing ep I have no doubt this network will sacrfice the intelligence of this series for more shirtless scenes of JH pumping iron and priming his bows and arrows for battle. Maybe if we're lucky Chloe will get something of more consequence to say in the next ep just so fans are truly aware of how very wonderfully "wow" JH is. Give me a barf bag now. And I just continue to pity Allison Mack's talent being wasted on tripe like that.
In the meantime Kripke, JA and JP and every part of this show continues to get better. Who knows, maybe if we're lucky Dean will go "wow" over the increasingly out-of-place Jo just so we know they have chemistry and how lucky we should be to have her on the show. One can only hope she not suddenly become the next new face of Thursday TV on the CW like the increasingly irritating Justin Hartley. Hey would you look at that - take note CW, there's another way you can slight Allison Mack in your lacklustre promotions of your best assets.

Since I hail from Oz, I haven't seen anything of S2 apart from clips but so far I can't say I'm a Dean/Jo shipper. What are they gonna call that fandom? Jean? Do? That ain't pretty, folks. Jo does strike me as a Mary-Sue. She's pretty, blonde, knows about hunting, can obviously fight and has no chemistry with Dean whatsoever. I think Kripke should take a step back and compare Jo to Layla or Sarah from S1. Those characters were real and you could see why the boys clicked with them.
As for Sam telling Ellen about the psychic kids, that was just plain stupid and gullible, especially when Dean was against it. Dean and Sam have had little to no interaction with the wider world of hunters up until this point. They have no idea how it works or whether a psychic like Sam would be treated with suspicion or rejected outright. For all we know, if the story got out, the hunters would start targeting the psychics, whether they were a threat or not. Not all of them can be flat-out evil. I think Andy is proof of that. There's a difference between murder and killing to save another person's life.

Ellen can stay, Ash can stay as long as he keeps his freaking pants on because that's scarred me for life now, thanks, and Andy mustmustmust return. MUST. Even if he's gone evil in the meantime, he was too great not to have back. Best guest star acting in the series yet.
The one-dimensional character of Jo is painfully pathetic on all counts and it's a crying shame to see Alona Tal stuck having to play such an awful character. Jo needs to leave very permanently. I could rant, but Jo is not worth the effort.
Soooo much funny (I have an evil twin.) and good (Dean sings!!) about this episode, and lots of good story arc! Great episode. But where's the music? I mean the REAL music??? Spinal Tap was fun, but come on!
So except for the presence of Jo and the lack of thumping tunes, excellent episode! Keep up the good stuff!

Ellen did not go over well with me at the end. No, they are not all in this together-- SAM AND DEAN ARE IN THIS TOGETHER. Ellen and her roadhouse of hunters are not why I tune in to the show. I do not want Sam rushing over to see Ash for research. I do not want to watch Jo salivate over Dean. I do not want to watch Ellen tough loving the boys.
I can deal with the network of hunters if its on the fringes-- mixing the mytharc with the roadhouse does not keep it in the fringes. :(

This whole Dean/Jo thing just dosen't work. There's nothing there.
I think that Sam should have listened to Dean and not said anything to Ellen about the other kids like him and the demon and all that. I think it's going to come back to haunt him. She may not come after him, but the other hunters are likely to when they find out that some demon wants to use him.

I liked the episode, mainly because I always enjoy how the brothers banter back and forth. Also, I agree with the comments about they should not have told Ellen about the psychic stuff. Now if it was Bobby from last season then I could understand because they have known him longer. Like the character of Jo but not together with Dean. She seems more age appropriate for Sam anyway.

This episode made me laugh out loud. It was soooooo funny. I love Ben Edlund's flair for funny dialogue. I loved Dean looking after Sammy again. Loved Andy, thought Ash was a riot, and I adore Ellen. I wish I could say the same thing for Jo. I tried to give her a chance, but after seeing the director's clip for next week. MARY SUE. This is who they're pairing Dean with? They can't be serious. Please reconsider, Mr. Kripke. Ellen would be a much more suitable partner for Dean.
Posted by: Lily | October 27, 2006 4:26 PM
Not one of my faves, by a long shot. This one had it's moments, Dean happily giving up his car, his attentive brotherly concern when the guy got hit by the bus and when Sam had his visions, etc., but overall, didn't care much for this one.
Andy was likable enough, I suppose, but I can't say that I liked how he didn't really get called on using his mind to get what he wants. So he wasn't a killer (unless you take Sam's idiotic view and are unable to understand the difference between killing someone to save another and flat out murder) but he wasn't necessarily a good guy in my view.
Jo and the roadhouse crew? Eh. Jo is a non-entity. She's just there and I really wish she wasn't. Ellen was a bit too pushy for me in this one but I've really liked her up to this point. So, I let it slide and see how they handle her next. Ash is nothing special really but he's entertaining enough. I hope that they don't continually have the boys go to him for answers, though. Especially with things that we know they are more than capable of researching for themselves. I don't want Ash to be the easy answer go to guy.
Anyway, again, not my favorite episode and after seeing the director's cut for next week's, that's going to be even lower on my list. Too bad, too, because the subject matter sounded really cool. Too bad Jo is going to be there to drag the episode down.
Posted by: Lola | October 27, 2006 3:30 PM
I really liked the episode, the comedy was really fun, brotherly moments were great and yeah...well, Jo.
I personally don't have any real problems with her and I don't mind the idea of her and Dean hooking up but I just don't see the chemistry between them. I mean as a character she is pretty okay, knows how to fight, cool and all, but there is no real thing in the flirting scenes...and I don't think they should force it...it's her second attempt...well, we'll see.
Posted by: Shasha | October 27, 2006 2:52 PM
I think Andy's powers to control the mind is cool and I don't see him as the black hat (villian) in this episode. I love it when he makes Dean to spill the beans in front of Sam...priceless!
Yes, I think the boys should tell Ellen everything about the demon and its agenda-- about Sam and every other children. Ellen has the right to be in this war just like every other hunter. It's not just a battle, but it's every man for themselves. And Sam & Dean could really gather up the best hunters they can find other than Gordon.
Jo tries to seduce Dean? Ha! He wouldn't have time for her because of Mama Ellen is in the way. I hope that Cassie or Andrea from season 1 will come back this season. I'm hoping that will happen. And so will Sara and Lori for Sam too.
Posted by: Brandon | October 27, 2006 1:46 PM
Andy was fun. Just plain fun...right up until the point her shot his evil twin and looked completely lost at the end. And no, Sam should NOT have told Ellen anything about the demon-touched children, esepecially since Dean was against the idea. Charactrs appearing every couple of episodes suddenly knowing everything there is to know about Sam and Dean and the Demon? It didn't ring true at all to me. Jo attempted to seduce Dean? Er, where was that again? I watched the entire thing and still haven't seen any chemistry between them whatsoever. Their scenes remain painful to watch and she still looks like a much younger kid trying to hook up with an older guy. I thought that was the storyline of numerous Law and Order episodes or CSI or something like that. Please let her sexier, older sister off hunting suddenly return home when Ellen is tragically killed/maimed or demon-possessed. Anything. Really.
