Smallville: Who's the 'Freak' Now?
![]()
Interesting episode that gave us plenty to think about. Chloe is a meteor freak? Lana is trying to keep Clark's secret? Lex is capable of killing just about anyone? (Okay, we knew about that last one.) Interesting indeed.
So what do you think Lex was doing with the meteor freaks he kidnapped? Was he sucking out their powers, or just tagging them so he could grab them again if he ever wanted to start his war? And what sort of powers - if any - will Chloe develop? We can't wait to see how this plays out.
We were also intrigued by Lana's reactions. She's starting (finally!) to figure things out, and it really looks like she wants to keep Clark's secret. Do you think he should just tell her already, or is it too late? And will she be able to keep the secret from Lex?
We squirmed at Clark's impromptu laser surgery on Chloe. We can't help but think, though - if you wanted to make sure she wasn't going to move while you were drilling into her shoulder with your heat vision, Clark, maybe you should have, you know, made her lie down? Perhaps it wouldn't have been as dynamic a shot, but it sure would have made more sense.
What did you think? Do you want Chloe to develop a power, or would you hate that change? Will Lex and Lana actually go through with their wedding?
POLL: What did you think of this episode? Take the poll!

this show is too old. these characters are way too old for all this cheesy story. i agree let this show go already. tom as 19 just too ridiculous.

I would love to see cloe develop powers, it would be a great change to the show. plus clark won't be the only freak in smallville.

When I first heard that Chloe was a meteor freak my first thought wasn't her mad computer skills, it was how lucky she is.
We know that sometimes the meteors don't give peole actual abilities. Lex for example, has a perfect immune system, he has never been physically ill.
We have seen that Lex is not above hurting Lana. I htink that if she left Lex for Clark, then Lex would hate Clark. And if Lex killed Lana Clark would hate Lex.
Also, we knwo that Lana's baby is abnormal in some way, (is Lex 33.1-ing his own baby?) and she may die in childbirth.
THe bottom line is, that Clark and Lana love eachother beyond all things, so for Clark to ever be with Lois, she would have to die.
Which would suck because I would rather Clark was with her than Lois.
Following the comic books doesn't really work for smallville, it's a different story. And also, Clark doesn't wear glasses, so all his friends will recognize himw hen he's flying around... I don't know we will havbe to see how it pans out.

I think Chloe should just stay the same and keep on goin out with Jimmy since they both love each other! Then Clark should talk to Lana right before she goes down the hall and come clean to her. So that way she can leave Lex for Clark that would make it interesting! and that way there would be no wedding . I want to see Lana leave Lex so he can be miserable and Clark&Lana can finally be happy sicne they are so madly in love with each other. and if Clark comes clean to her before she walks down the hall and if she does leave Lex, maybe we can have a wedding. IT CAN BE CLARK'S AND LANA'S!!!!!!

FIRST off i would like to applause Michael on his debut as a director he did a magnificent job. Now i have to say i have been watching smallville since the first season. I have watched all the superman movies an read a lot of the comics. So needless to say i am indeed a Superman fan. I love smallville, but like a few people have said the writers are not really going with how the story should go...i mean everyone knows that Clark ends up with Louis. BTW some one said chloe wasn't in the series of superman so she should be killed off...i have to say you are wrong. She was mentioned in the Superman movie the first one with Chris Reed an Clark actually talks to her and calls her by her name. Also in the comics Superman ends up splitting into 2 Supermen. One ends up marring Lana the other ends up with Lois. Anyways back to Smallville. I agree that Clark and Chloe should at least have a chance together even though it is pretty much doomed cause of the Louis N Clark thing. But i like those actors they are great...Just wish the writers would get there heads out of thier A*&^ an actually start getting to were Mrs. Kent makes sups costume an Clark becomes Superman...N takes on Lex.

Chlark is THE KEY to the whole show. For those of you who don't believe, read on:
This show from the very beginning has been about transforming a sheltered, simpleton farm boy into the world's greatest, strongest superhero of all time who can battle interstellar villains and talk to world leaders. Now, several things have to happen along the way for him to take on this role, regardless of whether these events are what everyone wants to happen in the show. Ultimately, Clark has to become a symbol more than he is a person—hence “Superman” and not “Super Clark.”
(1) Clark’s father has to die. Obviously he has to be his own man; Superman lives in no one’s shadow. Additionally, Clark has to experience tragedy in order to want to fight against it.
(2) Clark has to be truly vulnerable at some point (yet to happen in the show). And, I don’t mean his powers go away and he goes frolicking with Lana building houses and stuff. He has to lose EVERYTHING and then climb from the ashes and fly across the sky. He has to gain confidence from being able to come back from nothing. It’s classic storybook hero stuff. This vulnerability can happen in a variety of ways.
a. My personal favorite idea is that he fall in love with someone else (no more Lana please), give her “his everything” and then she dies a horrible, horrible death. And I think Chloe is the best idea for this. Isn’t this where the show is going? Now she’s weird too, maybe with some powerful abilities, and they’ve been so close now for so long, etc. She’s the only one who could ever hope to understand him, especially if they make her a super, super meteor freak. Chloe also would have the same enemies as Clark (i.e. Lex now knows she’s meteor infected, etc.). So, for at least a while they really should be together—that is, until she dies. I mean, Chloe Sullivan was NOT in the comic book, so we know she disappears.
(3) Clark’s mother can’t be someone he can run to about everything. The loving scene at the end of Crimson, where Martha saves him from himself and holds him can’t be the way things go forward. I mean, c’mon, he has to grow up. So, if the producers/writers have the guts to put Martha with Lionel, at least it would accomplish that part. Though, she could just die too. Either way, she has to stop being the support system she’s always been. He’s got to leave the farm too, so maybe she can ruin some good memories of the place?
(4) Clark has to stop being such a pacifist. I’m convinced this is why he can’t fly. He’s not aggressive enough about life and the way things SHOULD be. He doesn’t badly WANT anything. Something or someone has to put the idea into his head to take on the Superman cloak and just do it already. He obviously isn’t going to come up with the idea himself. (After all, he doesn’t like costumes, right?)
a. Again, I think this can be accomplished by Chloe. Maybe it’ll be her dying wish? She’ll describe to him her vision of a peaceful world protected by you know who?
(5) Clark and Lex have to HATE each other. That won’t happen just because Lana made her own decision to go off with Lex because Clark pushed her away. That is tepid, at best. Lex has to do something AWFUL. (maybe kill Chloe?) I also think Lex should discover some way to get powers like Clark and then lose the opportunity somehow (maybe because of Chloe?). That would make Lex’s jealously of Clark finally at capacity! And, of course, if Lex has also lost Lana in there somewhere, then nothing will stop him from going after Clark.
(6) I know a lot of people are going to hate me for this, but I think Lana should kill herself (maybe because Clark ultimately chooses Chloe?). It’s perfect. Lex will hate Clark and himself, thereby leaving him no reason to stop the evil that’s growing inside. It will contribute to the whole “losing everything” that has to happen to Clark. And the tension between them will be sealed forever as they will each blame the other for her death.
(7) Finally, in the real story of Lois and Clark, it takes them forever to get together. Clark has to be really trepidacious about going into another romance. He has to be scarred. He has to believe when it comes to love, he just can’t have it, period. He also has to prefer his Super self to plain old Clark, once and for all. He has to prefer that Lois love Superman, if she is indeed going to love him, instead of Clark. So, loving and losing Chloe and the whole Lana mess would definitely accomplish that. With the death of Chloe and Lana, so would Clark Kent die and become just a cover for the HERO from another planet.

i think that chloe's power is a iq boost so that help to show how she does all of those things this show has u question reality to see if it is real i just love that in a show

yo if all you people out there don't know or never watched television the original show was called lois and clark, i think it is great what cw and smallville is doing going in depth with the superman story. Lana and lois are not meant for each other in the end clark will end up with lois i already see the writers showing hints in that direction remember CRIMSON lana will die cause lex does not have a wife can't have one in the business he is doing cause people could kidnap her and use her aganist him. i bought season i dvd set couple years back and what i can't understand is why isn't lex developing any powers he was exposed to it when he was small he continues to expose himself by witnessing these experiments on people waht is happen if there is any director reading this and i know there is cause they would want ideas for the show and to see how people feel with what they are doing at the momemt. maybe lana's baby might show signs of superpowers cause lana was exposed and lex was this is a great show i hate waiting so long for a new episode i wonder what the next episode is when will clark get rid of this height stupidness and start flying

I think also that Smallville should be on more than once during the week. It is a show I can actually get into and I'm sure alot of other fans would agree! Its the best in a long long time. I love all the cast and would definately like to see more of it! Keep up the great job! I am truly a loyal fan!

I think Clark and Lana need to get back together. They both deeply care for each other, and are perfect for each other! Lex and Lana, I think not.

Face it Chloe fans.....the odds are that the Al & Miles Super Idiot writting duo will most likely make Chloe's hacking abilities/intelligence her powers. I can see them being that completely stupid when it comes to taking away from the character. And why not, they were stupid enough to pair up Jimmy & Chloe after teasing the Chlark for so long. Jimmy filling Clark's shoes? It makes me laugh now, it took a while, but it does make me laugh now.
Al: "Hey Miles, what we gonna do now, we can't give them romantic Chlark"
Miles: "Don't worry Al, just give them another Icon (yeah, Icon...rolls eyes) and they'll be happy"
Al: "Yeah, they're not too bright at that are they. And Jimmy is "technically" a Supes Icon. Uh, Miles, remind me why he's a Supes icon."
Everything these two have done with respect to teasing with the Chlark sure proves to me that they don't have a high opinion of Chlarkers, let alone Chloe fans.

I understand your frustration....and i certainly hope they dont make her have any abilities related to computers....that is just a cop-out.
I laugh at your rendition of Al/Miles because yes, sometimes i feel too that they dont care for us at all..."just give 'em something to talk about for an epi..keep them looking and hoping for next epis...but really, we're not going to deliver...you guys want Chloe to have a guy after 5 years of basically no male interest (cause obviously, she doesnt have long dark hair so no guy would be interested)???....well, lets just throw in Jimmy...he's not a hero...quite possibly the geekiest icon character...but hey, we have to leave the billionaires and hot boys for the other ladies...so she'll get left overs"
well that doesnt make me dislike Chloe..it just makes me dislike what the producers have done...i dont think that makes her a Loser...
Freak was still a great epi...and why do we need to talk about Erica and Tom looking old???? is that really necessary????....let's not bash the actors/actresses who make us look forward to Thursdays!

I think Chloe and Jimmy shoul;d end up together and Clark and Lana should be together. Because we all nowthat Clarkwill always love Lana.

This episode was awesome. I'm loving Lana lately, although I do wonder why she's going ahead with the marriage when there is so much doubt surrounding Lex. But otherwise she's becoming more and more like comic Lana now.
The Chlark scenes were just... amazing as usual. This episode shows again why they should be together. And I'm still not sold on Chloe being a meteor freak. I think if anything she will have an enhanced immunity like Lex - nothing active.
And MR did an amazing job for his first time out.

I thing Mr. Rosenbaum did a great job directing this episode. As for Chloe power's coming to light I think it should be the ability to break any security code that is created. This would be interesting for she would have no idea this is her power. Imagine not realizing you have these powers but have idea you do when you thought you are good at hacking.

This episode is in the right step to bringing back the million or more viewers who lost interest in Smallville. In the past, viewers always came back for the season's finale and the startup of the new season. There was a huge falling off in the end of Season 5 that continued into Season 6. The writing team should develop the story to a final ending next year. Bring on the final battle and betrayal. The attempted sex scene between Tom and Lois in Crimson was not fun or sexy. Lois needs botox and Clark needs to put his shirt back on. Tom is past 30 and it is no longer believable as a 19 year old. Lois and Clark look like my middle aged aunt and uncle in their underwear. Lois looks twice as old as Chloe and could play Chloe’s mother. It is time to hang it up folks.

I SoOoOoOoOoOo agree with Michele:-) CHLARK ALL DA WAY(",) TW & AM r THE BEST ACTOR/ACTRESS in this show! Man was that scene intense, i REALLY thawt that the scenes bet.them cudn't possibly get ANY mor tensed up, what with their ALWAYS present subtle eLeCtRiC chemistry flowing around, BUT THIS was ELECTRIC MAGNETISM *tssss*SMOKIN HOT*;-) There was something SO unbelievably STRIKING abt CHLARK's Heat Vision scene, it was SO emotionally charged AND the look on Clark's face THROUGOUT was PRICELESS(",) He was PETRIFIED for Chloe AND i LOVED tht look he gave her when she said,"Clark i need u 2 xray me"(lol) it was CLASSIC! AND THEN tht MOMENTUS EVER SO HONEY SWEET scene at the end...CAN THEY STEAM UP THE SCREEN ANYMORE??????? The way he touched her hand gave me GOOSE_BUMPS AND HEART PALPITATIONS 4 what seemed like FOREVER(",) Aaaah *sigh* Clark&Chloe are DESTINED 2b together 4 EVER(",)CHLARK&CHLOIS(Chloe=Lois) for Season 6(AND FOREVER)ALL DA WAY(",)They're SO worth the wait...(",)

Everything these two have done with respect to teasing with the Chlark sure proves to me that they don't have a high opinion of Chlarkers, let alone Chloe fans. I think mentioning this Freak & Loser (that would be Chloe),now, in the same sentence with her cousin is an insult to the Icon that is Lois Lane. Cousins? What a joke, Lois should just kick her Ass, take no prisoners (except all the cool super heros that are lined up to date her, cause they sure as hell ain't waiting for Smallville's pathetic blonde, Al & Miles have shown us that). Five will get you ten those morons make her Super Hacking & Intelligence a super ability.
I just wish they'd kill of Chloe Sullivan. Now I know that a lot of fans have said a lot of great things about the "Freak" episode, but it just proves that Al & Miles own most of you. They're like politicians, when they piss you off, they'll give you a little taste of what you want to hear, because they know that if they wait long enough, you'll be joyfully looking forward to the next bread crumb they throw at you. And they will....throw you a bread crumb that is.
Come on. Wake up people.

It wasn't bad and I'm actually starting to like Lana again. I mean her acting all stuck up towards Clark after he saved her like 1000000 times just pissed me off. But still when she's nice and understanding with him now it still bugs me that we still have to see the episodes end with her and Lex. I'm just sick of him lieing to her every single episode. Him lieing on the life of his child just made me hate him more. I really really really hope their relationship ends before season 7. If they actually get married, I might puke.

Loved this episode! Could barely look when Clark was performing that surgery on Chloe. And as for Chloe being a meteor freak...well, as long as it's not her computer skills that are her power. I want those to be her own.
Posted by: Lia | February 18, 2007 6:27 PM
I am completely different from most people, but I don't want Clark and Chloe. Why? Because she deserves someone that won't stop loving her to moon again over Lana. The Clark/Lana is never ending, no matter how many times we're promised, and it gets old, quickly. Chloe's worth ten of any other character on the show. She'd be a good match for Oliver, truly, because she's not cowed by a billionaire and has enough wit to keep him on his toes.
I like the Oliver/Green Arrow arc, a lot, and I thought it was telling that he called Chloe a sidekick. She is. The meteor freak thing is making me groan. It's such a cheap ploy to such an absolute gem of a character. Everything is sacrificed for Lana, even this episode had more Lana that necessary. Chloe's episode should have been about her, but it still hit Lana and Clark angst too much.
Overall, the episode was a disappointment. Nothing to do with the directing, but the storyline. It could have been much better. The good things, like the Lana and Chloe friendship moments (and Chloe & Clark later) were once again overshadowed by Lana's desire to know everything and uncover secrets. Really, that just doesn't seem right or fair when Chloe's been a faithful friend, split between the two of them, and she got shafted once more.

CW..PLEASE SEND WORD TO MR THAT HE DID AN AMAZING JOB ON HIS FIRST TRY!!!!!!!!! LET HIM DIRECT MORE EPISODES!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more with the previous comment made about Clark letting Lana marry lex. I think the chemistry between Lana and Clark is deeper now then ever before and he needs to act on it.
There's a few comment of Chloe's ability being able to crack codes and her intelligence should be her super power. but even that would take away from her character because it's stating that her skills is only do to her infection. that would suck and it wouldn't be fair to her character. let the genius be a genius naturally. it's what makes her great.
Posted by: Fred | February 17, 2007 11:05 PM
I loved this episode because it was exciting! All action, all the way and no draggy love triangle scenes. Even Lana wasn't boring, for once. This was the best episode since "Justice!"
Well done, Michael Rosenbaum!
Posted by: viv | February 17, 2007 3:25 PM
Chlark rules! THey are amazing together. BEST aspect of this show, the awesome friendship & love between these two!
I would HATE it if Chloe turned out to be FREAK beause it would be a huge retcon from what we've seen in the past 6 years. Its unfair to Chloe and her fans!

Finally Smallville is becoming entertaining. The Green Arrow story arc was so cheesy and off the mark. Finally the episodes are back to the main characters with the great chemistry. Chloe and Lana, great together. Lana and Clark, tremendous tension and great romantic undercurrent. Chloe and Clark, the dream pals. Lex and Clark, the fight of the century. Bring on the mad, out of his mind, evil, dark Lex genius. Let's take the story where it should go. If Clark lets Lana marry Lex, then Clark becomes the super-wuss and how can he save anyone if he can't speak up to get his girl back. Bring on the fight...good vs.evil.

omg, will they just make clark and chloe become chlark. i hate lana. b****es and a**holes should be together. as long as she doesn't say anything about clarks secrete. i grinched when she had heat vision sergury from clark. i couldn't look at that part. but it show's that she trustes him. they definitly belong together. i think it's geting closer!!!!!
Posted by: lisa | February 17, 2007 1:44 PM
Although it was interesting to see that chloe was was infected i don't think giving her powers would be a good idea. I think it will just take away from an already great story line.
As far as lana and clark, clark shouldn't tell her but i don't think he should keep denying that he dosen't have a secret.
Posted by: fred | February 16, 2007 10:53 PM
It was a "Freak"ing amazing episode! AM/TW scenes were wonderful as always....
Clark needs to just tell Lana already.....or maybe she should just put the pieces together faster...this is dragging on too long...
And Lex....ohhh Lex....how I love thee and sing your evil praises.....cant wait for the evil bastard to return in his fullest! BRING IT ON!
Posted by: Anonymous | February 16, 2007 6:15 PM
This episode was superb - a welcome relief from GreenArrowville and the impending Clana.
AM and TW were brilliant and under MR's direction, this episode was all about Chlark and their trust in each other. The impromtu-laser surgery scene made me cringe for Chloe, but it was one of the most intense scenes I've seen on this show in a long while - I mean she trusted Clark to cut into her with *heat vision*. Awesome - CHLARK all the way!
Posted by: Mab | February 16, 2007 5:56 PM
Tom Welling portraying Clark and Allsion Mack as Chloe were awesome in the episode Freak. I think that Clark shouldn't tell Lana his secret because she will use his secret as an advantage to Lex and she will find out about Clark's powers. I think Lana will tell Lex Clark's powers and I think that Lex and Lana will go through with their wedding.
Posted by: Giselle | February 16, 2007 5:40 PM
CHLARK WAS TOTALLY AWESOME AND HOT!!!! GOSH, I JUST WISH THAT THEY WOULD JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY. . .ENOUGH WITH THE TEASING!
I LOVED HOW SCARED CLARK WAS FOR CHLOE WHEN HE HAD TO EXTRACT THAT DEVICE FROM HER SHOULDER! THERE WAS SOMETHING VERY INTIMATE AND EROTIC ABOUT THAT SCENE!
ALSO, IT WAS GREAT TO SEE CLARK SUPPORT HIS BEST FRIEND; HOWEVER, I WAS NOT EXPECTING HIM TO GENTLY CARESS HIS ARM, WHILE SAYING "WELL, THEN CONSIDER ME YOUR PERSONAL BOMB SQUAD!" THAT WAS AMAZING! I DEFINITELY GOT A "MORE THAN FRIENDS" VIBE! I KNOW THAT A LOT OF CHALRKERS WERE CRUSHEDIN "TRESPASS," BUT I THINK THAT OUR HOPE HAS BEEN RENEWED! CLARK HAS FEELINGS FOR CHLOE, BUT DOESN'T WANT TO RUIN CHIMMY'S RELATIONSHIP. HE WILL STEP ASIDE FOR NOW UNTIL THE TIME IS RIGHT!:)
IN CONCLUSION, TW AND AM WERE AMAZING! THEIR SCENE WAS DEFINITELY EMMY-WORTHY! THE CW REALLY SHOULD CAPITALIZE ON THE CHLARK SHIP, BECAUSE THERE IS NO OTHER RELATIONSHIP ON TV AS OF RIGHT NOW THAT CAN COMPARE TO THE POWER OF CHLARK!

Chloe developing a power is interesting but I hope it's nothing big. I like how Chloe is a normal person who is by Clark's side. I actually thought her power is to decipher and break codes, because she's really good at it. I was always amazed at how she does it. So if she has that power, it would make sense. Lana is no longer weak :) I hope clark and lana have a chance again. We all know Lana's okay with Clark's secret :D
