Smallville: Wedding Drama Unfolds

We’ve been to a few weddings lately, and we’ve seen our share of wedding-related drama, so we feel uniquely qualified to comment on last night’s Smallville. Granted, the wedding angst we’ve witnessed has been more along the line of the bride having last-minute jitters, or the groom losing the ring, or the mother of the bride throwing a hissyfit that a bridesmaid’s shoes didn’t match the dress. But they do things differently in Smallville, apparently – wedding drama there means a supervillain accidentally killing his pregnant bride’s obstetrician who was threatening to expose the horrible secret about their baby while the bride was thinking of fleeing the wedding with the superheroes who has loved her from afar for years but has been afraid to get close to her while the father of the groom blackmails everyone in the vicinity just because he can – all while Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor plays in the background.

Otherwise, it was a lovely wedding.

We loved Lionel in all his scenery-chewing, mustache-twirling glory this episode. He’s just so much fun when he’s eeeeeeevil. When do you think he’ll call in his marker on Lex? Will he take the baby? Wrest the company from him? Or just dangle it over Lex’s head for the hell of it?

What did you think of Lana finally, irrevocably, once-and-for-all figuring out Clark’s secret? You’d think Clark’s super-hearing would have picked up on the fact that she was hiding in the wine cellar, but we guess he was a little distracted, what with his one true love getting hitched to the man who will become his greatest enemy and all that.

We liked the nice little turnabout in the Clark/Lana relationship. For once, he’s the one sitting there pining and while she’s keeping secrets to protect the one she loves. Now you know how Clark felt all those times, huh, Lana – kind of sucks, doesn’t it? But do you think she made the right decision? Should she have gone through with the wedding to protect Clark? We can’t help but think it will just make things worse when the news inevitably comes out.

So was the wedding everything you hoped it would be? Were you surprised by all the machinations going on in the background? Did your heart break for Clark? And just what is the deal with Lex and Lana’s unborn child? Share your thoughts in the comments!

PROMISE WAS THE WORST SMALLVILLE EPISODE EVER!!!!

LONG LIVE LEXANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel sorry for Lex because you can tell that he is desperate for Lana to truly love him. I think Lana's behavior is deplorable and my heart broke for Lex when she told him at the end of Season 6 that she is leaving him. I think Lana is a user.

the kid who wrote this , you're a douche : LOOK YOU GUYS GO TO YOU TUBE AND TYPE IN LANA'S BABY CLICK ON TWO WITHOUT THREE AND YOU SEE LANA HAVING HER BABY AND LEX IS THERE BUT THE CAPTION SAY THE WB BUT IS'NT IT SUPPOSED TO BE THE CW CLARK HAS THE BABY AND HE IS HOLDING IT IN ONE SCENE AND IN THE OTHER SCENE LANA IS WITH HIM AND HE IS HOLDING THE BABY AGAIN! I MEAN IT'S GETTING CRAZY ME AND MY DAD WON'T BE WATCHING IF THIS CONTINUES I MEAN LEX AND LANA ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GET MARRIED THEY MEESED EVERYTHING UP IN SEASON5 AND ON AND ON THEY SUCK LEX IS SUPPOSSED TO DIE IN SEASON 8 CHECK IN FOR THAT LATER I HAVE MY SOURCES

lana and lex do get married in the real superman. but lana later divorces him. so stop thinking your the shit because you're ridiculously stupid. and lex doesn't die. your sources are idiots like you.

I hate that Lana fell for that cheap blackmail.
That was such a soap-opera drama ending.
Seriously, Lana, couldn't you have just ran off and warned Clark about Lionel?
Couldn't she have just said a big no at church, run off to CLark and unveiled Lionel.

Anyway, one more time, no Lana+Clark.
I think these two should have a break. they should stay together and then, in time the relationship wears off, they grow apart, and break up and move on.

I didn't like that Lana did what she did.
Lana is such a coward.

This "Promise" episode has officially cemented Tom Welling's portrayal of Clark Kent as the MOST STUPID VERSION OF CLARK KENT THAT'S EVER BEEN DONE.

What a complete turn around from seasons 1 & 2. A good kid making mistakes and learning along the way. To now an Adult who is just as stupid as can be. The sad truth is that on this show ... every Smallville character is smarter than Smallville's Kryptonian Idiot.

If dog language could be translated, even Shelby would be barking at Clark
with "What the Hell's the matter with you boy?....Ain't you got NO BRAIN?....Where's Chloe when you need her?"

It was a great episode..cant wait to see what happens next..clark not breaking up the wedding was perfect and lana finding out his secret is great..it leaves the show open for so much more of a storyline. clark and lana will be back again..lois will be far down the road if at all..this is smallville not superman. its about clark kent before he becomes superman..lois and clark are when he is superman not before so everybody needs to stop waiting for that.

Smallville is my #1 favorite show, followed by Grey's Anatomy. I guess we are all entitled to our opinions. Smallville is watched by different kinds of viewers - from grown women (like myself), to grown men, to teenagers, to children. I am sure the producers take that into account when writing the scripts. They have to target all of us to keep us as viewers. If you're TRULY a fan, you'll bear the bad stuff just to get a taste of the good. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show people! Hopefully we'll have many more seasons to come. :)

Lana shouldnt marry lex she dose not the guy, she should av call of that wedding on tell clark about lionel blackmail her of killing him.I think lana didnt av any baby or if she did av a baby I think its clark own all i say this is a great show it been getting great senice lana about clark secert give the guy chance now he really love u lana I feel bad for the guy senice u marry lex you dont want lex go to guy u love

I thought Lana shouldn'd have gone through with the wedding Clark is not going to die. I mean he is superman and beside Jorel is not going to let Clark die and now thanks to Lana decision Clark is heart broken But I was really surprise to how it turn out. I can wait till the next episode. the baby Lna is carrying is not Lex's kid it's Clark 's.

Smallville, by far, is my favourite show on t.v.. I'm a Superman fan and I love that this show has brought some refreshing twists. I really love this site because people speak their minds, but people need to be patient and see what happens. Sure, it's cool to talk about the here and now, but please people hang in there. I do have to admitt that I saw this trashing of the show coming after I saw "Promise". I really did have fears that they probably "jumped the shark". Lionel is evil but he did Clark a favor, Lex seems like he's on a high but he would die if he only knew the truth about what transpired at the wedding, Lana walked into a bad situation because Clark wasn't honest with her but she should have seen through Lex, and Clark needs to fulfill his destiny so if he has to sacrifice his love for Lana, than so be it. I really love Clana but as someone said here, we all knew that they would break-up soon. Lois and Clark have to be in the future so Lana needs to move on.

LOOK YOU GUYS GO TO YOU TUBE AND TYPE IN LANA'S BABY CLICK ON TWO WITHOUT THREE AND YOU SEE LANA HAVING HER BABY AND LEX IS THERE BUT THE CAPTION SAY THE WB BUT IS'NT IT SUPPOSED TO BE THE CW CLARK HAS THE BABY AND HE IS HOLDING IT IN ONE SCENE AND IN THE OTHER SCENE LANA IS WITH HIM AND HE IS HOLDING THE BABY AGAIN!

What ever happened to the days when a show came out and if it was good everyone just shut the hell up and and couldn't wait to see what happens next. All these ridiculous comments about "Clark being with Lana Clark not being with Lana, the writers are doing a bad job, and all these other negative comments," are getting annoying just sit back relax and enjoy the show. Let the story go in the direction the writers want it to. They made it this far and the show is still a great show. If anything it gets better. You guys complaining are the only thing thats killing the show.

Let the show be what it is and just enjoy it.

I LOVE Smallville. From day 1, the pilot, the series has focused on the interplay of Clark and Lana and Clark and Lex. This is Season 6 and Clark and Lana and Clark and Lex are still the central focus. The same handful of anti-Lana posters (because they love Chloe etc. etc.) really need to pick up their remotes and exercise their freedom to choose another program. Season 7 will likely be the last and the Smallville producers are already laughing all the way to the bank. In syndication, Smallville is already sold for $400,000 per episode and each episode is shown four times. After 4 showings, the episode is again sold for $400,000. Smallville is CW's most profitable series and they have a lot of smart people running the series and the network. Obviously those in charged are a lot smarter and "with-it" than posters who spent all day in front of their computers living out their lives in the Internet blogs.

The dipiction of both Lex and Clark is pathetic. To strong personalities are weakened because the writers have them constantly pining...no...obsessing over the same woman. Get a new storyline already.

Smallville is a diversion from everyday t.v. yet it is just that t.v. I can follow complaints about acting or directing or a scene. But all the hoopla about the Lana Character is a bit much. Get your own life, the show depicts and idea of how this relationship could have been since it has never been depicated anywhere before relax. Clark and Lana will go there seperate ways eventually, so until the appointed time, Clark as a Human really has a reason to hate Lex, don't you think. I guess the CW could allow them some real time together as a couple working with each other instead of being at odds. But I guess you guys who are Lana haters will find something wrong with that.

This article is almost as hilarious as the episode was.

"This is the first time Clark is pining after Lana?" LOL. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. I've never laughed so hard in my life. Have they been watching the show since the beginning? The whole show has been Clark pining after Lana. Hello, in the Pilot he's staring at her through a telescope while she's dating Whitney.

I think this article is very biased in the fact that I think the the writer was paid by the CW to say certain things. Praise the Clana.

Well anyway, I thought the episode artistically was one of the weakest episodes to date. The editing was off and somewhat incoherent, the writing strange as it completely wrecked characterizations. I mean, even Chloe and Martha jump on the Clana bandwagon. (when in the past they told him to move on). They all make Lana sound like she's this victim, but she chose to be where she was. She has to suffer her own consequences. Lana's character is up so high on a pedestal I can't even see her. I feel sorry for Kristin Kreuk because they've turned her character into this object, this play thing.

To be honest, the Clana needs to come to an end. All of this love-triangle junk is boring. All "Promise" was, was one big soap.

Lex and Lionel were the only good things about it. I feel more sorry for Lex than Clark. The future Superman goes after a married pregnant woman on her wedding day? Excuse me, if I think Clark Kent should have some morals.

For goodness sake, let the characters grow. Move on from Clana, stop teasing the Chlark (Chloe's the only female character written intelligently; although they've been chauvinistically writing her as the girl friday for much too long as well as writing her as a plot device; enough already), and make Lois Lane plausible.

Really this season is bad. There's been a few good aspects, but overall this season has turned into a soap. There's a reason I never really watched the OC.

Anyway, at least in this episode Lana does marry Lex (although since when did she stop loving him all of a sudden? As if the only thing that brought her to Lex was because she didn't know Clark's secret?). I like evil Lana, as they showed. She was ruthless to Chloe to figure out Clark's secret. Though no one complains about it. If Chloe had locked Lana in a wine cellar, I don't even want to imagine the negative responses that would abound. Lana is up on a pedestal, Smallville has turned into a soap, and all of the characterizations have been almost destroyed. Hopefully, the CW will decide to fix it and fix it soon.

I, too, purchased all of the Smallville DVDs. Lana/Clana was definitely not the reason behind that purchase. I especially treasure the season 5 DVDs, when Clark and Lana broke up, seemingly for good, and Clark began to grow toward his heroic destiny. Unfortunately, all of that growth has now been sacrificed, and further growth has been stunted at the altar of Lana Lang. As a result, we have seen our hero sink so low as to pursue a married and pregnant woman to fulfill a childhood (and childish) fantasy. We have also seen Lana herself came very close to selfishly committing manslaughter by locking another human being, whom she claims as her best friend, into an airtight, frigid, enclosure. And yet the Smallville writers somehow expect us to applaud such behavior, rather than being disgusted by it.

lana needs to know who lexx really is before it's too late.

Money talks loudest!!! The people who love to see Clark and Lana together are the ones that made Smallville DVDs the biggest sellers. Smallville DVDs have brought in $100 million for WB.

You got any real numbers to back that up? I bought all the DVDs and companion guides and I definitely don't want to see Lana anywhere near Clark much less see them "together" again. That ship finally sailed last year and sunk.

My heart broke when Clark was standing there watching Lana marry his enemy. She told him she would meet him at the barn, didn't show up, then married Lex. It was breaking because Clark always tried to protect her from being hurt. And now she was doing that to him and she finally understands why he did that, which makes her feel terrible. But the bottom line is that Lana could have told him about Lionel's threat, cause then he could have taken care of it. Even though, it was a tough call on her part, i think she made the right decision because it is good for the story line. It's good for it because then Lex's plan on their baby can continue which will make the story more interesting.

Lana Lang has sunk to a new low. How can she use her best friend like that? She willfully put Chloe's life at risk by locking her in the wine cellar - a cold and air tight room. Chloe could have suffered from hypothermia and/or lack of oxygen. To use Chloe like that to trick Clark so she could find out a secret that she has no right to know and Clark doesn't want her to know is true Luthor behavior. Mrs. Lana Luthor. Yeah, it suits her. As for "one true love"? Neither is mature enough to know what that means.

Clark has been pining off and on for Lana for 6+ years. It's nothing new and very immature. As for Lana? She's been keeping her share of secrets and telling her share of lies since season 1. She has a history of stringing guys along while looking for the next guy. She did this with Whitney in s1. She was ready and willing to cheat on Whitney with Clark but Clark had the decency to back off. She even flirted with Clark at Whitney's dad's funeral! She's been flitting from guy to guy for 6+ years and treating each guy like crap.

Most recently, after spending Lex's money and living/sleeping with him, accepting his marriage proposal, carrying his child and telling him that she loves him she suddenly decides she can't go through with the wedding?! She didn't have the decency to talk to Lex but left him a note and was ready to run to Clark? This character is so loathsome it boggles the mind. She made her bed (with Lex) it's time she lies in it. With any luck she might learn something about herself. She's nobody's prey? She is the definition of prey.

So was the wedding everything you hoped it would be? Were you surprised by all the machinations going on in the background? Did your heart break for Clark? And just what is the deal with Lex and Lana’s unborn child?

I was very disappointed by the episode. Every single character was assassinated in an attempt to redeem Lana Lang. And it didn't work. I felt no sympathy for Lana. Her behavior on her wedding day made me hate her more. I was pretty disgusted by Clark. That's the future Superman? The Earth is in deep trouble. Sadly, the person I felt the most sorry for is Lex. He doesn't deserve to be saddled with Lana.

Money talks loudest!!! The people who love to see Clark and Lana together are the ones that made Smallville DVDs the biggest sellers. Smallville DVDs have brought in $100 million for WB. The one person who chronically haunts this blog and post the same anti-post over and over again should buy the Lois and Clark DVD and just be done with all this or get a life or do something else please!!!

This is really a sad episode. The beginning of Season 5 was so full of wonderful possibilities. Lana and Clark were finally together, the ratings were great. The first half of Season 5 was what most people were waiting to see. After the Hypnotic episode, the viwership really dropped off. It is really too sad to watch what they have done to the lead characters. What have the writers done!!! I guess the writers had to keep on going to create drama and melodrama but Lex and Lana, that is just plain wrong!!!!

I loved this episode!!!!!
It captured the esence of *Superman* and what he stands for.(*Not ruining the wedding*)! I just loved it.

This episode was REALLY BAD. I thought were over and done with the Clana, but they keep coming back and back and back and back. Didn't AlMiles make fun of this relationship in the season 5 DVDs, but they still keep bringing it back. It's time for Clark to move on. He ends up with Lois anyways.

Yup, yes I saw it and I was about to pass out but I knew these things would happen because Clark has to be with Louis and not Lana. As much as I love them together and as much as they look cute together, I know it is not ment to be and we all know that. I was mad at the events that took place in the show and wanted Lana to tell Clark the problem so he could kick lionel's BEHIND and atleast give Clark a chance to fight for there love, Lionel SUCKS, this show was hot and ya'll know they had to make a dramatic end for Clark and Lana, they wasn't just gonna let them go their seperate ways, now it is just gonna be Clark protecting her form lex and my sister beleive that they will kill Lana off and my take on the Lana baby thing is that she might not be pregnant and they staged everything or they implanted his seed in her while she was sleep or something,LOL, I don't know but I can't wait to find out. I love this show and I am glad I found others who love this show as well.
Later B-out

All in all the episode was pretty good.

worst episode ever. Glad the rating sucked a$$

While I thought the events in this episode were tragic, I felt more SICK than SAD... Lex and Lana...can you say "yuck."

Lana - at her wits end and under pressure - sets up the scene in the wine cellar. One of my favorites scenes in the whole episode. At last! She has seen Clark use his powers. She knows she's not crazy. You go girl!

And now Lionel is showing his hand? He's been about getting POWER back and has the upper hand over just about everyone. This perhaps is what that scene from ZOD was foreshadowing when Martha said to Clark "Every world needs its heros. They inspire us to be better than we are. And they protect us from the darkness that's just around the corner...." And we then saw Lionel recognizing with fire in his eyes the Kryptonian symbol for POWER. I always knew that losing Jorel's influence and knowing Clark's secret would equal trouble before too long...

I LOVE what Smallville has done for the story of Clark Kent. (I'm actually MORE inclined to read Superman comics now.) But in THIS story there is no way that Clark losing Lana is going to be anything but TRAGIC.

I know he's "supposed" to end up with Lois... but that's hard to see now. Lana is brave, resilient, loyal, mature, compassionate, tough, smart, fun, and has the same dark, sultry, freakishly HOT good looks that Clark has... How am I now supposed to want him to hook up with a brassy, college dropout, who while also brave, intelligent and attractive (in a slightly skanky way) really doesn't have the same smoking chemistry...

I can't help it. Right now I want Lana and Clark to be together at the end of THIS story.

why would lionel want to help lex after he tried to kill him twice (end of season 3 and end of season 5) i mean i thought he was on clarks side now since he is trying to get with his mom

clark and lana is NOT ment to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is lois and clark is the perfect match where is lois in the wedding show anywhere clark should know by now that he loves lois!!!!!!!!!

finally!!! Lana does something good for Clark and leaved him alone to be with chloe, Lex and Lana were made for each other.

Viewers want to see Clark and Lana together, like happy.

No we don't.

Look at the ratings for Mortal, Hidden, Slumber. Arrrival.

Which by the way were WAYYY lower than the Lana-Less episodes like Aqua, Splinter, Solitude, Cyborg etc. All those were Clark-centered and attracted many, many more viewers.

LOL...More immoral "cliches"....yay...and it's getting even better....

True love has no barriers...And how is this translated to Smallville's "Promise"? Well here it is a list of what it teaches us, with this.."cliche"

1. Manipulate our friends and use them for our own benefit, even risk their lives if we have to ( Lana using Chloe to learn Clark's secret when there were far better ways for that to happen)

2. Don't feel a thing for our unborn child..cause as we all know, a 20 years old female's love for her ex bf is much stronger than a mother's love for her child. (Lana not even mentioning once, i mean just once, or even thinking of her child as a reason for her to stop from running after Clark)

3. Go after someone's else's pregnant woman, at the day of her wedding, after having been through so many problems when we were around her, when we are supposed to be...proud of our decent character... (Clark ...no further comments)

4. Give our children or our friends the "best" of our advice by telling them exactly to go make a fool of themselves and beg someone to come back to their hugs, not thinking even once, that if things won't go as our little head plans, our child/friend will be hurt beyond belief..And actually giving such advice, while all the previous months, when there was indeed time and space to tell them to go after their crush, we were telling them exactly the opposite... (Martha and Chloe guiding Clark towards a road called despair )

5. Throw to hell our parents' sacrifices in the name of a love that isn't even the one of our lives and not learning anything from our mistakes ( Johnathan's death meaning nothing after Promise...)

Congratulations...True love has no barriers indeed...It tramples on everything and everyone, just like a boot in the mud...

Isn't it Funny that the consequences of Clark's destroying his Kryptonian Space Ship caused the death of Martha's baby (his brother)...........it was a consequnce that not only bit him in the A$$, but tortured him to the point of using our equivalent of drugs (Red K). Did he learn anything from that? No. It's still me, me, me, and more me......even when it involves the future of yet another baby. He still doesn't learn, and he doesn't care........actually, the doesn't care is debatable, but sadly the only possible rebuttle is that he doesn't "think".....he just does.

The same thing can be said of his using the crystal in "Reckoning"......Jo-rel tries to warn him, but he doesn't think about it.....he doesn't even want to listen......just does what he wants.....and then what happens?......when all is said and done..........his Dad ends up dead. Did he learn from that? No. And all Promise does is make the answer to the same old "did he learn anything" question supremely obvious. But certain fans just don't care about the story....they'll take whatever they get so long as their is romance between you know who & you know who.

And that's why this version of Clark Kent will come back to haunt DC in the years to come. Mark my words. Fans who haven't seen the first four seasons probably won't think to badly of Clark, but when the series is viewed as a whole........down the road DC will be like.....WTF! .......and wondering why so many people think Clark Kent is a bad person.

THESE 2 POSTS MAKE VALID POINTS. But all that some fans care about is the Clana. They are not concerned with how stupid the characters are made out to be. Luckily, I believe that a great number of fans are not so blinded by their bias as are the Clanarchists. Lana could have slept with 10 different men, and had 10 different babies, and they would still not give a rat's ass so long as they have their Clark and Lana, togeth-a, 4-Eva. How stupid is that.

I do not know if the Smallville Writters are really that stupid, or if they are just forced to write the stupid shit that Al Gough & Miles Millar have for brains. I am willing to bet that it's the latter.

Im glad that lana after 5 almosy 6 years found out clarks secret but come on why cant lana and clark be 2-gether and why did lana not tell clark lionel was going 2 kill him if she did not marry lex i hate that she married lex ewwwwwwwww nasty she should have better taste lana and clark 4-ever

Viewers want to see Clark and Lana together, like happy. Look at the ratings for Mortal, Hidden, Slumber. Arrrival. Who wants to see Lana marrying Lex, this has to be darkest, the most character crushing, series ending episode ever. Lex kissing Lana...What a terrible sight!!! Why writers? Why has this series come to this?

i hate lana shes a b***** she was meant to be with clark its not right i hate her

In the recent “Lana: Off With Her Head?” article at this site, the question was posed, “If you were a writer, what would you do with the character?” In light of the wine-cellar scene in “Promise”, here is yet another answer to that question:

Lana seems to think nothing of endangering Chloe’s life to learn a secret that no one has chosen to share with her at this point. She is foolishly depending on the accessibility and reliability of Chloe’s cell phone to prevent this incident from turning into manslaughter by accidentally freezing her “best friend.”

We already know from “Truth” (#62 or 3-18) that Lionel has no trouble at all tapping into Chloe’s cell phone. Thus, in an alternate version of this scene, Lionel would come to the mansion earlier and overhear Lana asking Chloe to retrieve Lex’s gift from the wine cellar. Immediately sensing that Lana is up to something, he surreptitiously follows her to the wine cellar, where he observes Lana locking the cooler door behind Chloe, and then hiding to watch. Since Lionel just happens to have access at that moment to his technology for tampering with cell phones, he blocks Chloe’s outgoing calls for help.

Well out of Lana’s earshot, he then uses his own cell phone to call Clark, telling him that “Miss Sullivan desperately needs your help. She’s been locked inside the wine cooler at the mansion. But Clark, be careful! Remember the security cameras. Someone else may be watching!

An alarmed Clark superspeeds to the mansion, meeting Lionel well outside the door to the cellar. Then they both run fast (but don’t superspeed) to the door of the wine cooler. Clark, hearing Chloe’s shivers, gets ready to rip the door off, demanding of Lionel, “How did this happen?!!" Lionel, in a whisper, reminds him to be careful, then nods his head toward Lana’s hiding place and states quite loudly, “I believe Miss Lang might be able to shed some light on that question. Isn’t that right, Miss Lang?” Lana jumps, breaking a bottle of wine or two in the process. Clark then shouts to her accusingly, “What have you done, Lana?” As she begins to sputter a teary-eyed apology/explanation, he tells her to “Never mind that now! Just go! Get the key! Hurry!” Anxious and frightened over what she had done to Chloe, she forgets all about attempting to learn Clark’s secret, and rushes to get the key.

While Lana is gone, Clark quickly removes the door, gets Chloe out (her teeth beginning to chatter from the cold at this point), and then welds the door and handle back on. Lionel, knowing that Clark is not normally all that sharp in matters concerning Lana, begins to answer Clark’s question by explicitly stating exactly what it is that Lana has done. But Clark responds heatedly, “I don’t need to hear about it! No matter how I feel, or should I say “felt” about Lana, I can figure this one out all by myself!” When Lana comes back, they explain to her that Lionel suddenly remembered where an extra key to the cooler was hidden, and so they were able to unlock the door and get Chloe out. Meanwhile, Lana has a lot of explaining to do on her own behalf …

Any need for Lionel to blackmail Lana into going through with the wedding has now dissolved. Clark, seeing the true Lana, is no longer infatuated with his heretofore idealized image of her. Because Lana realizes that her actions have ruined any chance she ever had with Clark, there is no longer any reason for her to avoid following through with her choice and promise to Lex. Thus the Wedding proceeds as planned. Clark even decides to attend the ceremony, genuinely happy for them both, because now he has no doubt in his heart or mind that they deserve one another.

Ok I'm tired of the " don't like it, don't watch it" arguement.

Everyone has their episodes that they absolutely hate. And Promise was one of those episodes for me. Just because I don't like an episode does not mean I don't like the damn show. So please learn the fuckin difference. Just because you have a certain stance on something does not mean everyone has to have it. I'm entitled to my own opinion if you don't like it. I could care less.

As things go in Smallville, this was an ok, but illogical episode in ways. To begin, it was very well acted by the cast, and AM shines, as always......but, really, everyone did Thursday night.

There's not much new that I could add that hasn't been addressed already. I would have to agree very strongly with the comment about the writing being inconsistant again. How puzzling is this? Since last season, there have been comments by both Martha & Chloe that Clark should MOVE ON with his life.....Chloe has made this point on several occassions. Likewise, Martha has told Clark that he should stay away from Lana. You have to look at the scenes in the wine cellar within context.....Chloe is locked in the cellar, and she calls Clark who, as always, comes to her rescue. At first, Chloe is grateful for his help, and then what follows is off the wall. Chloe then proceeds to virtually rip Clark apart for not saving Lana from her own stupidity. Everybody needs to watch those scenes again and really pay attention to it all.

(Everybody who's reads my comments knows I love AM & Chloe, but...)What I saw was Chloe projecting onto Clark her own perception of who he is and who he's supposed to be. Chloe sees Clark in a certain light, and she loves him and respects him......she sees him for who she thinks he's supposed to be. It's as if Clark isn't being allowed to be something less than perfect. At this point, Lana has cast her lot with Lex, and she's a pregnant woman besides which....and, as Clark told Lana in "Hydro" (?), her being pregnant "changes things".....c'mon, ya think? The writers of the show are so obviously over looking some major obstacles in the show at this point. Lana being married to Lex and pregnant with this creature thing is hardly Clark's fault.

In "Crimson", we saw Clark venting and laying his frustrations out there,.....Martha & Chloe were embarrassed in the process. So, what does Chloe expect him to do now? Would the fans of Superman really want to see Clark barge into a church and kidnap the bride? C'mon. Someone made the comment that Clark's comments to Chloe in the wine cellar were a bit harsh or unfair, and I totally disagree. Chloe & Clark have been soulmates and the best of friends, and as a Chlarker, I think they should freakin' be married, but.....at this point, Chloe should indeed realize how difficult for Clark this whole thing has been. Chloe has held his hand and been a witness to it all,....she of ALL people should know how hard on Clark all of this has been. So, within that context, Clark is absolutely right. IF Chloe doesn't understand how diificult this has been on Clark, then indeed she DOESN'T know him as well as he thought she did....so, his comment was reasonable.

If it's ever brought to light, what will be the situation in Chloe's and Lana's relationship as friends when it's discovered Lana intentionally locked Chloe in the cellar? How would Chloe feel about having been used as bait in a game for Lana to discover Clark's secret. Does everyone remember the conversations between Chloe & Lana earlier in the season?.....Lana tells Chloe that she respects the fact that Clark has confided in Chloe, and she states that she will find out about Clark on her own....oh well, liar, liar pants on fire. Lana directly used Chloe to draw Clark in so she could find out about Clark....she USED Chloe inspite of the fact that she virtually promised to leave Chloe alone about this matter.

One other interesting point, I think.......if you go back to the conversation in the wine cellar, there was the conversation as it ACTUALLY happened, and then there's Lana's version of what was said in that discussion. Go back and watch it again. Lana imagined things that were said that just weren't said. It's a matter of perception......did everybody catch that as you were watching the episode?

What a disappointing episode! What does Lana see in Lex? He and Clark are totally two different people and she loves Lex for some reason enough to let their relationship go this far?? I know she truly loves Clark but what did she see in Lex to begin with?

I was so happy she finally saw Clark's powers, that was soooo smart of her! But Clark definitely should have been more careful with his powers. That was very dumb of him to just use them out in the open without even looking for cameras.

I think the baby has been biologically altered with and is some kind of freak of Lex's.

I have NEVER seen clark so upset! That made my heart break! I know that for superman, he is supposed to end up with Lois but since so many things are different with smallville I hope they end this show with Lana and Clark together. Lana should have told Clark about what Lionel said to her. That was stupid and Lionel needs to wash his dirty grungy hair!!!

who ever actually understands this show clarke ends up with lois thats it period

I agree it was a great episode, and by the looks of things there will never be a lana/clark reunion. She's been treating him like dirt for awhile now. Marrying lex might be gods payback. I vote for a clark and chloe reunion they make a great team. Make lana jealous for a moment, see what she missing in a great hero with looks. I think the baby is one of lex experiences he's developing. And its going to back fire, because I read a episode spoiler that she going to have a miscarriage. Hmmm interesting. Anyway I'm loving the season 6 of smallville keep it up guys. FA....tom welling!

I'm lost. One minute we have Chloe telling Clark that Lana is a big girl and she can make her own decisions and the next she's telling him to save Lana from a monster.

I would have liked to see Clark to have the balls and tell Lana in his own words about his secret. HOw could have Clark been so clumsy to just pull out the door like that without looking around. I mean its Lex's manson and there could be security cameras. Didnt Jonathan Kent tell Clark to ensure that noo one sees him when he is using his powers. They're destroying everything Jonathan Kent had work so hard to achieve.

I would just like to see Clark and Lana together already...for good. But it seems that Superman's ultimate quest on Earth is to chase married women.

I'd like to see what Lex and Lionel is up to. I thought Lionel was turning good.

The comments here reflect a very small sample of the millions of viewers who like Smallville. Dont like it...dont watch it, make your own show and lets see its ratings!

ok all i have to say is dat i feel sorry for clark. please help lana see what she married and send someone for clark maybe it could be lois i dont know but he feels lonely.

i loved the episode but it hurt me to see Clark and Lana not together. I mean she was going to leave Lex and go to Clark i mean that is exactly ehat i wanted but Lionel comes in and ruins everything but then Lana only marrys Lex just to save Clark so at least we know that she still loves Clark and not Lex. Imean when is Lex goin to tell Lana the truth and when is Lana going to tell Clark the truth i mean then Clark and Lana can finally be together. What killed me at the end was that Lana had to marry Lex to see how hurt Clark and Lana were that just made me cry for hours. So when are Clark and Lana finally goin to be together when it does finally!!!!! but the reason i was crying was because Clark and Lana weren't togehter and that everybody knows that they should be. I mean doesn't Lana even know how much she hurt Clark so i can not wait till Lex tells the truth to Lana and Lana tells the truth to Clark because then Clark and Lana can finally be together,
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER
CLARK AND LANA 4EVER

I hate that lana had to marry lex buts its only to save clarks life that shows she really to love him.

Clark has to grow a set and start kicking lex`s ass.The lana and clark thing is getting old.who cares, with super powers like that he could get anyone he wants

So let me get this straight. Lana thought she could play with fire and now she's crying because she got burnt? Whoa, shocker!!! Who would have expected this. Consequences!!!

I can't say I hated the episode but for the life of me I don't see a reason for having it either. The whole idea of shooting it from 3 POVs was very original and well played by the Director of the episode but if the reason was for Lana to finally learn Clark's secret, I'm sure they could have found a better way.

The episode did nothing for me in terms of characters or progressing the story. If anything, it was full of inconsistencies, amnesiacs and empty shells of characters. The desperation which was obviously the theme, was overplayed making especially Clark Kent seem like an immature child who learned nothing from the mistakes of the past and to me dishonored the memory of his father. Everything Jonathan Kent stood for - dignity, honor, family - was completely shuttered when he went after Lana minutes before her wedding and even worse when she was already married begging her to come with him. Begging her???? He has truly regressed to the emotional cripple so many fans seem to think.

And don't get me started on Lana. I always thought she was spoiled, needy and manipulative but this takes the cake. The cause does NOT justify the means!! She used Chloe, who even to the bitter end stood by her and defended her to Clark, only to fulfill her obsession. Because this is not love she feels. Love is unconditional, no ifs, no buts. Love is accepting the person across the room with all its faults and problems. And especially respecting his decisions and his privacy. You do not manipulate your best friends in the name of love. NOT on your wedding day. Tie up loose ends my ass. It's like in the middle ages when in the name of God the worst crimes were committed. It wasn't right then and it's not right now. Chloe said it best: "Lana is not my Hero, you are". I hope the writers were listening to their own writings.

And Ant Nell is proud of her? Twenty years old, pregnant, jobless, college drop-out too who is marrying a man she doesn't love while stalking another? Yup, all the right reasons there.

As for Chloe and Martha, can you say 180? Where was the Chloe who reminded Clark that Lana is a big girl and can take care of herself or has made up her mind? Where was the Martha who was telling Clark that the best thing to do is to leave her alone? Why on earth the day of her wedding would they encourage him to go after her after months of trying to help him move on? Why on earth would they contribute in such a tragic mistake instead of trying to protect him from the man who can really hurt him if he has a strong enough reason to do so?

The only one I LOVED was Lionel. Subtle but deadly. *Sigh* Lionel is more like Lex should be than Lex himself. He has become but a shadow running after Lana's skirt. *Sigh* I am looking forward though to see Lionel's plan unveil. I guess that was the only reason the episode was worth watching. Lionel Luthor

My eyes, oh God my eye!!! Tell the TPTB that I'm sending them the bill for destroying my most precious sense!!!!!!

Can you spell C-R-A-P?

I guess God was watching last night and the only way he knew how to punish Lex was to let him get married to Lana and stay married to her forever. Now that must be what hell looks like, lol

Well I think Promise was the most heart Breaking,Deceitfully Eps I seen
what the since make lana find out that Clark has power waste of time and I think Clark should hook up with someone I think C&L Love triangle should finish and bring Pete back

The storyline was pretty lame. But I loved it and hung on to every word.

The climax upset me. Clark did not deserve that.

Everytime I think of the ending I feel sad and sorry for Clark.

The powers that be, please, please in the finale let them be together.

I cannot believe Lana allowed herself to be blackmailed by Lionel. For goodness sake you just saw the man/alien pull open a locked lead door and weld it together with his eyes!

I wanted to slap her.

As for Lex I cannot stand him. After what she did to Clark, Lana and Lex probably deserve each other.

I would love to see Lionel rub in Lex's face Lana left him a note and he saved Lex from embarassment.

One last thing, can Jonathan be brought back.

A hopeless Smallville fan

Simply loved it!

Lionel was the highlight of this episode. As to the rest....just more tired love-triangle stuff. It's boring and the ratings reflect that. More action eps like "Justice", please.

I'm tired of lana, its like for the past few episodes the shows revolving around her..its like..MOVE ON!

I thought last nights episode was crappy because it was built up for nothing...everyone knows lana and clark will not be together and pointless episodes like this are really killing the show for me...The lana love triangles were cool when they were in high school but its time to let lana move on...and let Lex really go bonkerz when she leaves him for pete

Welcome to Sucksville USA .

Where they grow the heroes spineless and strive to run off with their married ex-girlfriends.

Where the villains, once magnificent, wither away and die while hoping for some scrap of love from that which rules all: The Saint Lana.

Here, in Sucksville, once every episode, character development and story logic are sacrificed in an effort to maintain the Purity of The Lana. This way, the sun always shines on her and no one can exist without loving her. She is always right, and always stalked/wronged/in trouble. Every secret is hers to know by hook or by crook and pity the poor fool who dares to keep anything from her. She is entitled to know everything, feel everything and be loved by everyone.

The story of a friendship of legend? A journey to see how a hero and a villain came to be?

Sacrilege.

This is the story of Lana Lang.

And how she destroyed something that could have been great.

I loved the episode. I am wondering what is the secret about the baby??? Is it Clark's baby??? Or is it Zod's baby...Lex must have done something really evil?? it is full of suspense.. I think that Lana did the right think under the circumstances to marry Lex...She sure loves Clark, now she knows his secret, and I think that she will confide in Chloe...Lex is up to something....so is Lionel... we just have to wait and see...

I am reading the other posts and amazed at how many people dislikes the episode. I must admit I love the episode.(despite how it ended) I love Lana and Clarke, and would love to see them together.

I thought the episode Promise on Smallville last night was really suspenseful and I felt sorry for Clark who had to have his heart broken. Lana shouldn't have listened to Chloe and Clark's entire conversation just to see what he could do with his powers. Now that she knows part of Clark's secret she should leave Clark alone for good since she's married to Lex Luthor. Besides, I'm glad that Lana married Lex because she drove me insane with her being so whiny for Clark. She and Clark had nothing in common because of trust issues.

That was a good episode but Lana is soooo slow. I mean she had to see Clark pull a led door off the hinges before she realized he had powers ?? I guess she understands because she must have powers too. I mean with how many concussions she has had she must have healing powers like Claire from Heroes.

Plus she saw him rip a door off the hinges and shoot lasers out of his eyes yet she was so quick to believe that Lionel Luther could kill Clark ??

I think it sucks that Lex always gets what he wants. I used to think he's cool but this relationship with Lana has made him a complate spoiled brat. When he told Lionel he really wants to marry Lana, I was picturing him jumping up and down yelling "I want her daddy, I want her I want her!".

When this awful relationship started I was hoping it would just end quickly. Instead of being quick and painful it has been long and painful though. Still I have to say this was probably the best episode of the year. It well done even if I hate the fact that Lex and Lana are actually married now.

People that say it's great that they are married just so we get less Clark and Lana stuff aren't thinking. It's obvious that she's gonna treat Clark bad everytime she sees him again just to fight how she feels. No them getting married doesn't mean we're gonna have less Clark and Lana drama. It mean we're gonna have even more! Plus we're gonna get even more of Lex being a jerk to Clark now. With him rubbing it in his face. With the smirk he gave Clark at the end it's obvious. I was hoping Clark would just shoot lasers through his head.

Still the episode did off a lot of intrigue and leave us asking a few questions. Like did Lex implant Lana with a baby and is it his ?? and how long will it take for him to find out that he can't trust Lionel. But if we get a Lionel and Marta marriage next I might puke. The show has gone hill since Jonathan Kent died as it is.

hmmmm..so i see my previous post was conveniently left out...so i'll try again.

the acting: fine...they will get some kudos for doing a great acting job.

the plot: crap

completely OOC characters: more crap

all in all...last night was the saddest night for our future superhero..crap

I just wanted to say that last nights smallville was great. The twist on Lana finding out about Clarks secret was amazing. I was happy that she found out cause when she did, it made her realize that was what he was holding inside and it made her see how much she really loves him. First of all the person up there who is a very pissed smallville fan. Can you please act like an adult?. You are calling people names and things you need to stop. Lina I agree they need to bring back the hotties especially oliver along with Clark he is my favorite hottie they are both sexy as they can be. I want to see Clark and Lana get together because they deserve it. They have been through so much its like the tragic romance. Lana took a turn and saved Clark for once. Goes to show who she really loves. Lex just isn't the man. Lana will never love him the way that she loves clark! Chloe is awesome to she is Clarks best friend and gives him the best advice, she told him to go for it and he was gonna tell Lana I love you chloe! I love all of smallville!

did lana and lex get married i miss the show

Personally, I am sooo happy that Lana got married. Maybe now TPTB will finally stop with the Clana plot line. I was hoping that Lana would leave the show for that to happen, but, hey, this works too I guess. I did feel so bad for Clark, though. He didn't deserve that. I have to agree with the statement that Lana's been nothing but a b!tch to him. It's time to move on, Clark.

You know how sometimes you get episodes in shows where everyone acts completely out of character?

No wait, that's just Smallville.

i agree with the first comment "Promise was a total RETCON!to make poor wittle Lana look like a freaking saint." he knows wat he talking about or she

this episode was truly amazing i was shocked by the way that lana found out about clark's secret but i was hoping that the told us the secret about lana's baby

All these people leaving comments don't know what they are talking about. I love this show and i think that last nights show was very suspenseful and provoked a lot of emotion, which is really what a good show or movie does. It provokes emotion. I think Lana is vital to the show, and by her leaving or getting kicked off is just insane. I think that last nights show just proved that lana is not the helpless victim person and she is doing what she thinks is best for Clarks safety. I think that if Lana left the show or didn't end up with clark i would no longer be satisfied with this show. I'm a big fan though so i really hope that the producers keep the show suspenseful and wrap everything up in the final season. I would hate to look back on this show and be like wow that ended terribly. I have never liked a movie where the guy didn't get the girl in the end, its sad. I think that it gives people hope for their lives if the movie or show ends well.

I think that some how lana and clark will be togther and that the baby of lanas is clarks in some way and that is why lex is doing something to lana

This episode was so wretchedly bad that I just laughed out loud throughout it. I must confess that, in that respect at least, I found it highly entertaining. A number of other people did not, though: the overnight ratings for this dreck were 4.54 million viewers. Not the lowest of the series, or even of the season, but pretty darn low for an episode as heavily promoted as this one. Maybe the writers and the network will finally get the message and understand that Lana and Clana are not good for the ratings.

I love the fact that Lana finally knows the way Clark feels. Everything he has done to protect and save her. I would like to see scenes with her stewing and thinking back on all the good things he did for her and the nasty ways that she treated him. It would also be great to see Lana witness his super powers in future episodes. You rock Smallville. The writers are the best. Please bring back the ensemble of hottie's (The Justice League) :)
