Smallville: Inside 'Progeny' and an Imminent Death

Smallville

All-new Smallville returns this Thursday at 8/7c... FINALLY!! We're excited about Lynda Carter's highly anticipated appearance as Moira Sullivan, Chloe's enigmatic mother. We've definitely missed Clark and our gang of icons-in-the-making the past few weeks. Plus, Chloe and Lex will clash big time. Nice!

Check out this TV Guide interview, where Ms. Carter talks about the two superhero worlds colliding and Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman movie.

As for those nasty rumors that a major character will croak before Season Six comes to a close - we've heard it all before. We've learned to just watch and see. Why fret? It's clear TPTB will do whatever they want, even if they've promised in the past to leave certain characters alone...

Oh, and not only must Lana NOT die, but Clark and Lana have to get back together!!! I don't care what the original story says, Lois and Clark do NOT belong together.

If Lana dies, I will FLIP OUT. Lana and Clark have been put through ENOUGH tragedy, thank you very much. If she dies, I will be very, very, VERY angry.

No killing Chloe please, everyone should know she is the most popular character on the show right now ... Without Chloe Smallville is nothing.

Oh and Progeny rocked cuz it was Chloe-centric and she was kick-a$$ :) More of these highly appreciated.

When is Batman going to make an apperance on Smallville. I think that woould be cool see.

Please, if your going to take out Lana, at least let her and Clark be together one more time & let them tell each other the whole truth abouth everything, then maybe Lex will kill her by accident instead of Clark. That will really make him a bigger bad ass.

Do not get rid of chloe she is a big deal in the show, she is the only person Clark confides in completly, who will he turn to if she is gone?

Lionel can go after this season. I have a feeling he made lana marry Lex, to make sure Clarks destiny with lois is not disturbed. Yes, I think Jor El is coming through. If Lana or Chloe die I will still watch. I'm a superman fan, before lana/chloe. But I would really miss Chloe the most. OMG! Did you see her stregth last night? Can't wait to see her power(s)

Ok at thirst i was Clark/Lana fan,but then everything chanced i like Chloe more than any other character.Shes the best of the bests.I want Chloe and Clark together. And i can swear you one thing if you intent to kill Chloe i will stop watching Smallville!!!!!It will be your worst decision ever!!You will lose a lot of viewer!!Where are a lot people who watch Smallville just because of Chloe!

Sorry for my bad English :)

what about Lionel luthor? He can die, theres no need for him anymore.

Clark-Lana-Lex that is Smallville. If anyone of them leave, that is it for most viewers. The Internet is a funny place. A small vocal group with nothing to do create a point of view on the Internet. Look at how intense the turnout was for Snakes on the Plane on the Internet. No one showed up to watch the movie. Smallville is great with Clark and Lana and the eventual fight between Lex and Clark is what most viewers want.

Please, please, PLEASE get rid of Lana once and for all and free up Clark and Lex to have backbone and spirit once again!

Finally. The director's cut is now up at cwtv.com

I think it's Lana that is going to die. How can there be a Lois and Clark if Lana's still in the picture? I mean it's obviously the future of Clark Kent to be with Lois, but he still loves Lana and Lana still loves Clark. Clark suspects there were other reasons Lana married Lex, so he hasn't given up on Lana. I am definetely a Clana fan, but the only way for the "Lois and Clark destiny" to be fullfilled is if Lana is somehow removed from the picture. I know Clois fans don't agree, but that fact makes me sad.

ok..so I am glad i am not the only one who thinks that something is VERY SUSPECT about the lack of promotion for Progeny. And before anyone comes on and says "It's only you 'Chloe fans' who think so", let me say, I am a fan of SMALLVILLE FIRST AND FOREMOST, and whether I like chloe or not, it is obvious about the lack of promotion. (for example: what the heck happened to the Director's cut?)

now that my disclaimer is out of the way, let me ask this:

Why, In the name of Sam Hill is Progeny not being promoted like it should???...especially after such a long, torturous break. You have Wonder-Freaking-Woman in a superman show, and you guys are not promoting the hell out of her???...after tptb spent a bit of money to get her (i'm sure)..where is the advertising????

and yet, you promote the heck out of an episode like Promise, where the entire once-divided fanbase (over ships) was unified in their anger of portraying a young superman who lacks morals by wanting to run away with a pregnant woman on her wedding day to raise her son on....what?..his good looks?..his wavy hair?...cause unless she gets money from Lex, or has it stashed somewhere before, or Clark sold the farm, or they got *gasp* jobs, how would they have supported that non!kid?...but alas, no...because love conquers all...even conquers the idea that a young superman would have morals *rolls eyes*

so back to Progeny: CW please send a message to tptb that unless there was some HUGE secret in the episode that we will see, and that was the reason why they have had such little promotion, there is MUCH suspicion about the REAL REASON this promotion was so non-existant. So let me ask the CW ptb this: are you guys willing to sabotage the ratings of an episode just to make a point about a non-mythos character???...please, we arent dumb...give your fans more credit.

I hope you are above that logic...or let me give the benefit of the doubt that maybe, just maybe, you're saving the money to promote the heck out of the finale????....hmmm..we can hope...
Note: Claire, this is not a comment related to you at all...more like a message you can pass on to those higher up...and in the marketing dept

RichardAK I think that just may be the case. It's really really sad.

I would really really love for 'Progeny' to get better ratings than 'Promise" that would make my day, but I think it's not going to do any better than "Combat" in ratings department

Here's hoping Lana finally bites the dust. She's been a dead weight on this show for ages now, never more than something for someone to love/possess/own and dragging both Clark and Lex down with her.

And what's with the lack of promotion for Progeny? Jeez. Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot - you have a guest casting that would attract viewers but do *nothing* of note to promote it. What a joke. And what's worse, we actually get Lex being the Big Bad we've been waiting to see, along with some delicious confrontations with Chloe and Moira...and nothing extra for promotion.

I think they might be deliberately sabotaging this episode. If they are going to kill off Chloë, and I do think she's the most likely to die, then by sabotaging the ratings of a Chloë-centric episode like "Progeny," they provide themselves with a justification for the decision they've already made.

If "Progeny" performs poorly, they can turn around and say, "See, we did a Chloë-centric episode and it got poor ratings; she's not a popular character after all, so we were right to get rid of her." Of course, they seem to be doing everything they can to stack the deck against "Progeny," including airing it at the end of a long hiatus and barely promoting it at all.

I think you might be unto something, RichardAK. The CW promoted "Promise" and it fizzled. This was the episode concentrating on the triangle from hell - Clexana - which was supposed to bring back the Clana/Lana fans. "Justice" and "Freak" (a Chloe-centric ep) ratings beat "Promise" with less promotion. Obviously, the PTB's ideas don't coincide with the audience's so they sabotage the ratings to validate their decisions. Pretty sad if you think about it.

As for who will die? If it's Chloe, the PTB will be killing one of the best characters on Smallville. She is the only character who has been shown to progress towards her goals since day 1. Both Clark's and Lex's journeys have been mangled to justify Lana Lang's existence on Smallville. And "Lois" is completely unrecognizable (Future Pulitzer prize winning investigative reporter that never graduated high school, got kicked out of college, got handled jobs she's unqualified for, got inspired by a barn door, works at the Inquisitor writing lies to sell papers, and begs for stories).

Btw if Chloe dies, I will be free of Smallville!.

Lillie, I've noticed the same thing you have: they barely seem to be promoting this episode at all, which is odd, because they went to the not inconsiderable expense of hiring Lynda Carter. I suppose they might just have blown their advertising budget on the pile of excrement that was "Promise," but I think something else might be at work here: I think they might be deliberately sabotaging this episode.

In the end, if they are going to kill of Chloë, I think it's a huge mistake. First of all, she's very clearly one of the most popular characters on the show, certainly much more popular than Lana or Lois. But killing Chloë doesn't even work as a shocking plot-twist. After all, people have been predicting Chloë's demise since the pilot, so if she does die, it won't really have any shock value. But in a weird way, Chloë's death would be a relief: then I could just give up on the show.

I don't understand. You encourage a nasty rumor. The majority of your viewers are furious. If Chloe die you lost 40% of viewers. Go to Ksite and you will see that 70% don't like this. Chloe is the creation of TPTB and she is the favorite character of Smallville. Last year, she won the best supporting actress of Teen Choice Award. She is the only cast to win an award since the beginning of Smallville. Clark said to Chloe. You can imagine the importance you have for me. If Chloe die, it's the end of Smallville . Why repeat the same error as O.C. and Alias. Respect your fans is a long-term investment. You send a bad message to the young people. Chloe would give her life for Clark, works extremely hard , has good values and you kill her to make place to Lois a superficial girl. We want romantic Chlark not funeral.

Thanks for the John Glover interview.

from the pages i've read i think it's chloe,
but i don't want that to happen even though she's my favorite character
thats why I watch smallville in the first place.
don't forget 4 hot clark and the exitment in the show!

QUOTE:[I kind of want it to be Chloe so I can finally stop watching] END QUOTE

My thoughts excactly! I'm already simply watching each main Chloe episode and then skipping one or 2 episodes (Clana & Clois & Chimmy, except when it's in the Chloe Centered episode). But even that is starting to change. I'm finally getting tired of Chloe Sullivan. She's just a love sick loser. And worse, a loser settling for Jimmy Olson. Oh, there's a catch. She goes from the brainless man of steel to the dorky photographer. Jimmys not even 2nd best. He like shouldn't even be on the list. Yep, I can honestly say that I am getting close to the end now.

Add to that Clark Kent's fetish for pregnant young married women. Yes, they could put Tommy boy in the "S"tupid suit right now, and all I would see is a Superman WANNA BE, an IMPOSTER if you will.

And the latest spoiler about Chloe's soon to be stupid power doesn't help either.

SMALLVILLE should have been called STUPIDVILLE. Home of young and horny super heroes.

Remember that other show that has a brand new episode this Thursday?
You know, that great one that's very popular and has a lot of fans?
Maybe you should write a nice entry about SUPERNATURAL. COMING BACK THIS THURSDAY!

WHAT!!!????? lana can't die! she has to stay alive at least long enough for...i dunno. she just can't die. by the way, when is the season finale of SV?

i just want to know what the smallvile song is on the comercial!!!!!!!!

I think that Lana's the one who will die in the season finale Phantom on Smallville.

I would like to see Lana leave SV - but not die.

Well, it's about time I'm seeing some kind of promotion for 'Progeny' The CW has seriously been slacking in promoting this episode. I've seen it a good 3 times since it aired on Thursday. Yup Chloe always gets shafted.

As for who dies. Lana will be biting the dust. It can't be Lex, Clark, or Lois. TPTB have already said they were the only ones safe.

I kind of want it to be Chloe so I can finally stop watching, but I think it'll be Lana.
