Michael Cassidy Joins Smallville This Fall!

Michael CassidyMichael Cassidy stole our hearts as creepy-with-a-soft-side Cliff on Hidden Palms. Now, TVGuide.com reports that he'll be stirring things up as the editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet this fall on Smallville! Oh, and that's not all... sounds like he'll also be a love interest for Lois (!).

There's already been some grumbling about Cassidy's relative youth -- at 24, he's pretty young to be running the paper. Does that bother you? We're willing to go with it until we see how he does. Based on his performance on Hidden Palms, we think the guy can handle anything (okay, yes, we're biased because he gave us a great one-on-one interview and was totally nice).

Are you guys excited about this new development? Would you have preferred an older actor in the role, or are you ready to give Cassidy a chance? Discuss!

Michael. i think u are so dam sexy. WOW..!!!!!!!

He is too young to play such a role. I just know they can find someone a little older.

WHATEVER!!!!! MC IS A HOTTTTTTIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! And the guy is married, so he's definitely mature. Plus, have you ever heard his voice??!?! HELLO?? MANLY AND SEXY AND STUDLY, throw him in a shirt and tie and he'll be 34. Who wants to watch old farts on TV anyways... LOVE YOU MC, TEAR UP THAT DP!!

Oh here comes the Lois smack downs. I love how an article about Michael Cassidy being cast on Smallville ends up having something to do with Lois. Let's speculate this to death ya'll. Give MC a chance he is awesome on HP.

And I'm sorry Meg, but Smallville has been in need of new blood for a while. Let's just hope with Lana out of the way for a while we can actually see our main character, Clark grow.

blah too young. He'll make Nois look like his grandmother.

well i think hes got it down, i mean hes able to seduce eddies mom on Hidden Palms why are you all complaining that he might not be able to play a part as an older person give the guy a chnace!!! lol

Sounds like Michael Cassidy is another CW actor who was guaranteed a spot on a CW show if the original program the actor was cast in got cancelled.

The CW replacing older actors with someone young and hot? No way would they do that *is dripping with sarcasm* You'll notice Anette O'Toole isn't coming back as a regular (but the 'real' Supergirl is joining). Smallville fans, I think it's time for Thursday nights to band together and fight the new hotness. CW doesn't know what it's doing and is going to ruin a perfectly good night. Join the Superfans in saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'

Well he will be a junior editor not an EiC, either way YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! for him I hope he is evil...we need an ambiguos guy...we need dirty methods, a Lex employees whatever but badddddddd!!!!!!

And Michael can be bad!!! I am sooo excited

Unless the role is changed quite a bit from how it was originally described (Daily Planet editor, 30-something, love interest for Lois), this guy is a pretty ludicrous choice for the role. He looks no more then his 24 years. And that wouldn't be such a big deal, except we're talking about a show that currently has an entire cast playing YOUNGER then they are. Most notably the actress meant to be his potential love interest. Why cast someone younger to play OLDER? Its a stupid decision, and smacks of the CW just wanting to bring in someone "Young and Hot" and not caring at all about the quality and integrity of Smallville, and its core story.

No offense to Michael Cassiday, he may well be a competent actor, but I'm very skeptical about him being cast on this show.
