OMFG: What Do You Think of The CW's Gossip Girl Ad Campaign?
Gossip Girl returns one week from today with new episodes! To get us ready, The CW has launched a new ad campaign both online and on TV. We're excited to see the show getting publicity, but haven't we already seen this scene? Like in the pilot? We were hoping for a preview of something new!
Unless Nate and Serena will be getting hot and heavy again... but we kind of doubt it, especially in light of recent spoilers that leaked.
Then there's this far-from-subtle ad:
What do you think of the ad campaign? Is it fun and edgy or trite and tired? If you had never watched GG before, would you want to start now after seeing these ads? For all you longtime fans of the show: is this campaign true to the essence of GG? If you love it, tell us why -- and if not, tell us what you'd do differently!

I agree with Keri.

I am not really surprised by this ad and the others based around sex. After all the show is mostly about these teens having sex and living a lifestyle of pursuing what feels good- drugs, sex, alcohol, and of course sex (I have seen a few episodes). This lifestyle in reality is dangerous and may lead to things like STDs, alcoholism, teen pregnancy, rape, and other emotional issues which we may not see on the surface.
I am personally offended that this as goes a little overboard with the suggestive use of OMFG. Do we sensor anything any more? Is this really appropriate for teens?
I would love the CW to consider making a positive impact on the world and especially youth by promoting healthy lifestyles.

I actually love the show, and I can't wait till it comes back this Monday, as with the rest of its growing fan base. The OMFG ads are absolutely unnecessary to gain interest in the show. Wrong move JS. Don't kill the show like you did with the OC

HELLO, I graduated in 1993, I was a VERY popular & I guess cute VIRGIN, actually, the last one in my class, give me a break. NOW, sex is an everday thing at that age for the most part, don't tell thwm it's not, just try to help guide to the right person! And to BE RESPONSIBLE

"OMFG"
Tasteless, tackless, unimaginitive and unoriginal promo idea.
And I didn't think the CW could reach a new low.

These ads should not be shown to young viewers. Why is the CW focusing on the 18-34 age viewers? I thought that they only cared about the tween demographic. Too many young teens watch this network and I don't think parents would want their kids to see sexual ads for a TV show. IT'S NOT NEEDED!

Ahh...I see why they don't advertise Supernatural. There's not enough sex scenes. :D

its a great show but this is not needed!!
Why does SEX have to sell everything??
if the show has any morals & respect for the younger viewer this would not be the advertisment!!
the creators obviously dont think the content they have with the show is good enough to pull the viewers in which is a total shame......we need more good hearted shows like ONE TREE HILL!!!!

omfg? Is there anything more blasphemous than that. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. I have never seen anything so insulting or offending on public television. My 14 year old daughter watches this channel, but not anymore!

I thought you focused on sex way too much.I agree this show is kinda about that along with friendsip and blah, blah.
It makes gossip girl like a normal tv show.
*This is why i watch/love one tree hill and supernatural more tha gossip girl*

Heh. Pretty typical of CW advertising, if you ask me. It seems the CW is in desperation mode with this series, and of course, sex sells. Whatever.
Now, if the CW would just concentrate on promoting the shows that really deserve it, like, oh I don't know, SUPERNATURAL, that would be great. Thanks.

The whole gossip girl show is lame. CW should promote SNL better.

I actually don't like this ad! Gossip Girl isnt just about sex and that's what the ad makes it look like.
There was potential to do better but they blew it.
I'll still watch the show because i'm a huge fan but this promo doesnt capture the reasons why gossip girl has been so successful

Honestly, I think it is disgusting to advertise a show like this about teenagers as sex crazed maniacs... hack I turned to my 16 year old foster son upon reading it and said, "We're NOT watching that show, eh Mitch?" he quite happily agreed. (Robot wars is still more his thing haha) but still!

Why do they keep saying sex over and over?
Gossip Girl isn't just about sex.
It's about...um, something else besides sex? Yeah, I've got nothing.

Wow. That's lame. >>
Seriously!
