Top Model: Down to the Final Three!
Dominique headed back to America last night on Top Model, and it wasn't a huge surprise. We realized that, especially this week, she's really grown on us. Yeah, she had delusions of grandeur and bursts of excessive self-confidence, but we're inclined to think she needed them after enduring the harshness of panel. We agree that she wasn't the best model there, but did they have to chuckle about her manliness week after week? If it was that bad, why not cut her six episodes ago? The girl's features aren't going to morph into Anya's overnight.
Let's backtrack. For the challenge, the models got behind the camera and shot Paulina, who, by the way, needs to start co-hosting this show (at least). She's stunning, her critiques are honest but not cruel, and she doesn't mock accents (ahem, Tyra!).
Anya nearly exploded with creative energy, asking Paulina to frolic with leaves and tug at branches. Dominique struggled a bit with the challenge, and Whitney and Fatima were more studied in their approach. Fatima ended up winning -- her first challenge victory ever!
The prize, while not the most glamorous, was an important one -- 50 extra frames at this week's photoshoot. The girls were styled as '50s-style starlets being caught by the paparazzi while clutching the arm of an Italian man... not an easy shot, even with cameraman Nigel and Jay Manuel coaching them through it. They had to appear surprised, yet sexy. Startled, yet not posed. Only Anya managed to nail it, but Nigel remained underwhelmed because the moment he captured was an accident. Well, maybe so, but it was a beautiful accident!
Fatima ended up needing her 50 extra frames. Nervous about posing with the guy ("I've never had a boyfriend"), she posed awkwardly, sometimes turning completely away from the camera.
Whitney didn't do much with her body, but her eyes spoke volumes. And Dominique? She didn't fare so well.
At panel, the judges criticized Dominique yet again for her mallrat style. When they pulled up each girl's best photo, it was hard to believe that Dominique's was really her best -- it was horrid. Fatima's photo might not have accomplished what Nigel wanted, but at least her beaming smile and graceful pose were modelesque. Dominique's barely looked like her!
Once Tyra announced that Dominique and Fatima were in the bottom two, we expected to see Dominique head home. Fatima doesn't take direction well, but the judges like her better. Plus, Dominique's problems were rooted in her look, not her modeling. And her look wasn't likely to change anytime soon. Bye-bye, Dominique! Her exit was classy and sweet, and we'll miss hearing her running commentary in next week's finale.
Now we're down to the final three: Anya, Fatima, and Whitney. Who do you think will win it all? Who do you WANT to see win? Vote in the polls!
Comments
Commenting on the La Dolche Vita comment, I thought that they should have done the shoot at the Trevi fountian which is where the most famous scene of the movie takes place. In the movie, Sylvia (the starlet) wasn't running away from the papparazi, they were just running for no reason. Bizzare but that's how the whole movie was. I thought that this episode was great though.
