Random Ruminations
Whenever a blogger or columnist writes a series of unconnected random thoughts, it usually means one thing: Couldn’t come up with a topic. Now that we’re clear about that, let us proceed.
• I don’t care about the Olympics. There. I said it.
• Anybody else out there getting tired of Coldplay?
Okay, that was a pretty negative start to my random musings. Let’s get a few positive ones in there.
• I was against the Jets going after Brett Favre. But once he arrived, he’s such a compelling, cool guy, who exudes such authority and leadership, now I’m glad he’s here.
• I predict the Jets will go 7 and 9.
That didn’t stay positive for long, did it?
• A new poll out Wednesday shows nearly 4 in 10 people haven’t decided who they’re going to vote for for President. Amazing, isn’t it? The media just gets completely overheated following the horse race, declaring Obama is ascendant one week, that McCain is the man to beat the next. And yet American voters just take their time, following the campaigns as they get closer to the actual election day, making considered choices, while everybody in the media/political complex is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I love Americans.
• So I have this blog now, but it’s hard to get people to read it. Or even know it’s there. If you’re reading it, would you mind telling a few people to check it out? Of course, the flaw in that plan is that in overwhelming numbers, you are NOT reading it, and therefore couldn’t tell anyone about it. My mother is checking in from Ohio, as is an aunt in Knoxville Tennessee. Mom says she thinks I’m a pretty good writer, but didn’t like it when I said Paris Hilton looked “hot” in her reply to John McCain’s ad. Hey, that’s more feedback than I’m getting from anybody else.
• I get whiney sometimes.
• Want to buy (or download) an awesome CD that I’ll bet isn’t up your usual musical avenue? Get “Dwight Sings Buck.” It’s Dwight Yoakum singing the songs of his spiritual musical mentor, Buck Owens, and it is a masterpiece. Dwight takes these songs from the Owens catalog, some well-known and others obscure, and brings the Bakersfield sound alive for the 21st Century. Yoakum is a terrific singer, and his updating of these songs proves once and for all what a musical giant Buck Owens really was.
• Sometimes the other music I listen to leans toward very hard rock, and already I’ve got my 6-year-old twin boys into it. Now it’s the heavy stuff, or nothing for them. I’ll try different radio stations, only to have them shout it down with their ultimate insult for a song: La la girl music, they call it. I finally got a station playing a song the other day that I thought for sure would satisfy them, but nope, they thought it was wimpy. It was a Led Zepplin song. I’ve created Frankensteins.
Well, they say when you start going on about your kids, it’s probably time to wrap up the conversation. Thanks for letting me share. Especially about not caring about the Olympics.. I’ve been keeping that pent up for a week. I feel SO much better. Whether anybody reads it or not.

I didn't know you were ALLOWED not to get excited about the O games! But now that you are "out of the closet" on the subject, I will agree with you. The deciding factor for me was water polo. Has there ever been a more boring sport to watch? However, I just can't wait for the synchronized swimming (if they even have it this year.)
Great blog! I agree with you on the Olympics, too. It's hard to get excited about watching when the coverage is so biased toward the U.S. athletes.
It looks like you have at least three readers now, since your mother is pimping out your blog to rest of the clan in Ohio. I think it's OK that you said that Paris Hilton looked hot in that video. Looking hot is really all she's got going for her and why not encourage her to use whatever meager talents God has given her? In truth, I thought the video was funny and it actually raised my estimation of her. I'm not proud of that, but there it is.
I don't care much about the Olympics either and yet there I am watching some event every night. I tend not to care about sports in general, but somehow I get absorbed in a particular competition and have to see it through. I think beach volleyball could give water polo a run for its money in the boring category and just what the hell is synchronized diving? It's just weird is what it is. And a little bit creepy.
