7:00am Segment Info:
Want to help you kids lose weight? Make sure they're getting enough sleep. A new study finds encouraging kids to sleep more can help them lose weight. In fact, according to researchers from Johns Hopkins each additional hour of sleep lowers a child's risk of being overweight by 9 percent. So the more sleep the kids got, the less likely they were to be overweight. Children under the age of 5 should get 11 hours or more of sleep a day. Children between 5 and 10 should get ten hours, and those over 10 should get at least 9 hours.
In other news, guys better watch their cell phone usage.

If they want to have children, anyway - a new preliminary report from the Cleveland clinic found that men who spend hours on the cell phone may experience decrease sperm count and a higher percentage of abnormal sperm and the more they talked, the stronger the connection. This was just an observational study where researchers at the fertility clinic noticed the connection.. They don't know how or why this happens.
8:00am Ask The Doctor Segment Info:
1. Denise from Middle Village, Queens asks: At what age is a woman's pregnancy considered "high risk?" Why?
Denise, there are a number of factors that make a pregnancy high risk. Having more than one baby meaning twins or triplets automatically puts you at high risk also if you've had any previous pregnancy problems or chronic medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure or kidney problems just to name a few. As for age, being over the age of 35 also puts you in the high risk category just because you're more likely to have complications during your pregnancy when you're older.
2. J. from North Bergen NJ: I skateboard about 4 or 5 hours each day. Is skating helping me to stay in shape?
J, the amount of calories you burn depends on how much you weigh and the degree of intensity when you skateboard. But as a general number if you weigh about 150 pound. You'll burn about 270 calories per hour skateboarding.
3. Hi, Dr. Steve, I’m Chris and I’m stayin in the city and I wanted to know if soy milk is better for you then regular milk?
Chris, it's not that one is better than the other. They're just different. You should know that soy milk isn't actually milk. It's a liquid that's made from soy that "looks like milk". Soy milk is fortified to have many of the same nutrients as cow's milk but the calcium is not as easily absorbed as that from cow's milk. Soy milk is low in saturated fat and cholesterol... But so is skim milk. To me soy is a great option for people who are allergic to cow's milk.

Good Morning Dr. Steve,
Thank you for all your input, you have supplied me with more info. than my regular physician.
I recently received an email and have been hearing much on the subject of MonaVie Drink from the Islands. Do you have any information on this? I guess I'm desperate to find anything that will help. I have COPD, always tired, live with pain and or pressure around my back and chest, light headed, vertigo, stomach, thyroid problems and overweight for the past 10 years. I'm on an inhaler, Nexium, Antivert (when needed). Also what is your thinking on Fat Burner Pills on the market today?
Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.
