After more than 40 years behind the lens and with 300 Sports Illustrated covers, legendary sports photographer Walter Iooss Jr. shares a collection of images and memories from his remarkable career in Athlete, available May 6 from Sports Illustrated Books. With a foreword by Michael Jordan, the book includes many intimate, never-before-seen images of Derek Jeter, Jim Brown, Charles Barkley, David Beckham, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and others.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP...

Iooss (pronounced Yohss) captured his first Sports Illustrated cover in 1963 at age 19, with a picture of Phillies pitcher Art Mahaffey. In the four ensuing decades, Iooss has perfected the art of sports photography, capturing the power, grace and passion of athletes both amateur and epic.

For Athlete, Iooss has compiled more than 150 of his greatest and most revealing photographs, each of which tells a story. Others on the long and diverse list of legends and personalities include Muhammad Ali, Yogi Berra, Carl Lewis, Greg Louganis, Joe Namath, Jack Nicklaus, Terrell Owens, Bobby Orr, Pelé, Michael Phelps, Bill Russell and Tiger Woods.
