'Dear Zachary' Chronicles A Doctor's Murder

dear1029.jpg

On November 5, 2001, Dr. Andrew Bagby was murdered in a parking lot in western Pennsylvania. The prime suspect, his ex-girlfriend Dr. Shirley Turner, promptly fled the United States for St. John’s, Canada, where she announced that she was pregnant with Bagby’s child.

Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne, Andrew’s oldest friend, began making a film for little Zachary as a way for him to get to know the father he’d never meet. But when Shirley Turner was released on bail in Canada and was given custody of Zachary while awaiting extradition to the U.S., the film’s focus shifted to Zachary’s grandparents, David & Kathleen Bagby, and their desperate efforts to win custody of the boy from the woman they knew had murdered their son.

We get more information about the new documentary Dear Zachary, which chronicles that fight.

To the family of Andrew and Zachray.
Please except my deepest sympathy and condolence. My heart goes out to you. I am a grandmother and I have a grandson who is 8 months old. I watched the documentary on Andrew and Zachary and it was so well put together, it showed how loving a family you are, and how wonderful and loved your son was, and why this is a very important matter to all. My husband and daughter are going to the Sun Dance Film Fest in utah in January and I told them all about this film. I am going to write the canadian goverment about bail reform. I to also feel that bail should not be giving to someone who is acused of a hanus crime like murder, I feel they should stay incarcerated untill proven inercent I cannot stop thinking of Andrew and Zachary they will always be in my prays, I am going to let everyone know about this flim and to get more people in the U.S. envolved with bail reform .And for Kurt Kuenne, great work. Thank you and God Bless, Faith Namer

You have done an amazing job on this documentery.I felt every emotion I got angry at the justice system for letting her out time after time. The justice system victimized the family and friends. You are an amzing person for being so strong . I love your work and would love you to share more. You are truly a true friend and angel. You are in my heart and prayers.

Lot's of love to you and your family,
Brandy

This film truely infuriated me and left me with the feeling of my heart being ripped out of my chest! Being a parent myself, I was deeply moved by this story. To the grandparents: You two are the most couragest and strong people I wish I had the pleasure of knowing. This story will stay with me forever! I will pray for Andrew, Zachary, and all of the Bagby family and extended family. Unforgetable!
