Plaxico Burress: We'll hardly miss 'ya!

Following their insanely early bye week, the Giants take to the field Sunday against the Seahawks without star wide receiver Plaxico Burress. Plax went AWOL last Monday (neglecting to call the team to say he wouldn't be at practice) and was slapped with a two week -- but only one game -- suspension as a result.

So what effect will Burress' absence have on the G-men? NONE. That's because the Giants have the deepest receiving corps in the NFL; and that's not even counting Super Bowl hero David Tyree. The players fill us in after the jump.

Elder statesman Amani Toomer is the rock; Steve Smith the possesion specialist; Sinorice Moss the speedy change of pace; and Domenik Hixon will prove to be Eli's favorite target.

Nearly all of the talk in Wednesday's post-practice locker room centered around how the Giants will compensate for Plaxico's absence. When they were asked, pretty much every player spoke not of missing Burress, but of the incredible opportunity his suspension presents for the RECs further down the depth chart (like Hixon).

You'll recall Hixon's amazing preseason performance and chemistry with Eli Manning, especially during that first quarter rout of the Browns. Sure, it was an exhibition, but that first quarter was mostly against the starters and WITHOUT Burress for the Cleveland D to key on.

The Browns mainly had to focus on shutting down the same pass catchers Seattle will confront Sunday -- and in case you forgot how that went, check out a box score from that game (especially considering the Giants face Cleveland next Monday night).

Worry not, Giant fans. For one week, Big Blue's DEEP roster of pass-catchers will pick up their cell-phone challenged comrade. - Matt Estreich, Special to Bobby v. the World
