Devin the Dominator

While we wait for the next shoe to drop in the Plaxico Burress saga and the Knicks and Stephon Marbury drag out their soap opera, there's a nice story developing across the river. It doesn't have the sex appeal that these other stories have, but they told me to blog about whatever I want so here goes. Devin Harris is fast becoming the go to guy for the Nets.
Monday, he was named NBA Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference after averaging 30 points and 6 assists in his last 4 games. The Nets won 3 out of 4 on their western road trip, including wins in Sacramento and Phoenix, two places where they hadn't won for many years. Harris came over from Dallas in the Jason Kidd trade and the Nets made out like bandits. The Nets, who many picked to be last in the conference, have a surprising 9-7 record and Harris, along with Vince Carter are the driving force. They are the highest scoring tandem in the NBA but it's Harris who is driving this team. He missed 3 games due to injury, the Nets lost all 3. Whether they need a defensive stop, a shot, or a smart pass, Harris has been the man. Sunday night in Phoenix, he scored a career high 47 points to help the Nets to a comeback victory. He's getting other players like Yi Jianlian and Brook Lopez involved in the offense. Harris is fearless as he goes to the hole and his step back jumper is quickly becoming his signature move. He's fun to watch and makes me think the Nets have a bright future. Remember, the Nets are going to be players in the Lebron James lottery. Trading away Kidd and Richard Jefferson cleared out some big money. The Nets might have a better team which might be more attractive to the King, but let's not go there just yet. We have two years to think about that. Right now, lets just watch and enjoy Devin Harris.
